different corner would you recommend the secret?

Hmmm, Pickle puts it well. (That's why she should be a journalist :))

I think given the array of self help/positive thinking books there are out there and The Secret is still a talked about book says something.

But it did annoy me with it's style, and many contributors. I don't think it's anything new really, not in the here and now. But I bought it, read it, sold it and forgotten most of it !

So in all honesty no, elantan, I wouldn't. Feel the Fear does it a lot better. And I like Tony Robbins - in small doses though.

'Feel the Fear'? I've never heard of that. What's it about, and do you recommend it?

Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway - Susan Jeffers I think. Makes lots of sense and find yourself nodding away, some of it you've heard before but I think it was first published in the 80's. So it's one of the ground breakers.

yeah it is susan jeffers ... and tony robbins oh no dc step away from him ... fast lol

ok my view of the secret ... i think it is an incredibly dangerous book ... i am worried that a person that was raped or has had or is dealing with cancer would think that they brought it on themselves ... the secret teaches us that we draw things to ourselves ... so is rhonda really trying to say that the 300000 that died in the boxing day tsunami of years ago all drawing it to themselves ... nah hen away you go and boil your head

i just feel it is dangerous and i think that yes she does make some valid points but is clawingly annoying throughout ...

i know people that have read it and thought it was the bees knees .. but alas i take a critical look at any of these books

are you looking for self help books pickle?

Elantan, I see what you mean re the secret. I read cosmic ordering, halfway through it, something horrible happened that changed my life forever, I certainly didn't partake in any such thought. So a pinch of salt and some care in approach to such things.

I'm always up for self help recommendations, or rather inspirational true life experiences.

if you fall it's a new begining by karen darke is a good book

authentic happiness by martin e.p seligman is interesting

the art of happiness by the dalai lama is worth a read

if you really want to read a book that will change your life though i would recommend the tao te chiang by lao tze ... although you would be better reading the tao of pooh and the te of piglet first so you can get to grips with what it's all about ...

loads of other good help books depends on what your looking for tbh ...

but i wouldnt recommend tony robbins either i'm afraid ... was given a set of c.d's of him by someone so i listened to them and he is not a very nice person when you listen to what he says ... smiling whilst stabbing you in the back kinda way

I think taking a little bit from all them helps. Robbins 'raise your standards' statement hit me.

After reading the light hearted Eat, pray, love I was more interested in spiritual reading, but haven't investigated yet. Thanks Elantan, list is growing longer.

i would agree there dc it should deff be an eclectic thing ... mix and match and make it your own ... the best way to go ... and i am sure he has said a few good things in his time ... i think with me being into N.L.P i am just very wary of language used etc

Not really, but for whatever reason I just decided to read it as it's one of those books you keep hearing about. That's not to say I won't read any more of the ones on the list you provided! ;)
