Pickle, what's Le Dame Aux Camelias like? I've got it in English but haven't got round to reading it. In fact, I've got quite a few Dumas' that I haven't read yet, mainly because I loved The Three Musketeers. Even if I did see the characters all as cats and dogs!

I'm liking it so far: much ye olde language, but it's all very dramatic love stuff (not what I would normally go for, I must admit). And just in case you weren't aware, it was written by Alexander Dumas Jr., and his dad wrote 'The Three Muskateers', which I have also read. If you liked Athos, Porthos etc. (and yes, I was afraid of seeing them as doggies as well! ;)), then you will likely like this as well, if you can cope with the bedroom scenes of Milady's (is that the Queen's name in it?)

BTW, what's 'La Dame' called in English? 'The Lady/Woman with/of the Camelias'?

My version is The Lady of the Camelias.

Ooops I didn't realise it was the son! I'll have to go look at my other Dumas' and see which are which now! Man in the Iron Mask and Count of Monte Cristo are pere, yes? Not sure about the Black Tulip. (Just checked Amazon and that's pere too).
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Yup, I think so. But you've just made me think about Iron Mask and Black Tulip, which I haven't read. I'll have to get my little mitts of them sooner or later.

I'm a read 'em bin 'em kind of girl. This is mainly because once I start a book it goes everywhere with me; into the bath, the swimming pool and sauna. I’m sure you get the picture, and then it looks mangy and out it goes, sacrilege I know, but it all helps with the decluttering. This is the reason I’m surprised that I have got quite a few untouched books, awaiting the Scrooge treatment. In my defence (I always make excuses for my behaviour), I buy the vast majority second hand or with vouchers.

The exception to this rule is my self help books, of which there are many, in various states of disrepair. At the moment, I keep referring back to 'The Now Factor', one of Pickle's recommendations. The information is great for overcoming procrastination, and it makes you feel proud to have been a procrastinator, because it paints all these positive traits that a perpetual puter offer usually has. A bit like a person suffering from dyslexia being told that Albert Einstein, Richard Branson, Steven Redgrave, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Walt Disney etc, are all dyslexic. We just need to channel our positive qualities in the right direction.

Does anyone have a Wish List on Amazon?

I spent a couple of hours last night tidying up my wish list! I used to dump everything I fancied into my "one" wish list and it was a mess. However, I did find it useful as putting books "on my wish list" stopped me from buying them and gave me time to think.

Now (Amazon have changed their system) you can set up lots of wish lists and I have created new wish lists for different genres of books, DVDs, CDs.

Now I feel all organised. :A

Oh, that's a great idea setmefree2. A wish list would give me something to aspire to, once i've finished my present collection.

I'll add a few that have been mentioned on this thread. Thanks.

Tete I'm with you on this one, books are almost ornaments - am often willing to pay more for a nice hardback copy. I find it very hard to get rid of any - only if I really didn't enjoy them or once or twice I've decided I've "grown out" of them (though will probably regret that later).

I'm not really like you in this sense I don't think Vix, I'm odd - I really like people with scars because they tell a story and show you've lived your life, and I'm the same with books (and most other objects!), I'm happy for them to have creased spines and sand in them if I took them on holiday and so on, I just like to keep them ALL! :D

Uh-oh, I'm not going to get much work done today am I?

Still ploughing on with TSK three chapters from the end now, might see if I can finish it off tonight, I'm really into it!

I thought I took my book to work with me today and was most greviously vexed when I discovered its absence at lunchtime today, meaning that I couldn't plough through a few pages over my food. I hate it when that happens!

just found this thread. Well saw it a while ago but have been avoiding it for fear of getting sucked in.......sigh...too late

I read the lovely bones and I wouldn't say I loved it but it 'affected' me....can't quite put it into words....I think the film doesn't quite have the same effect.

Now I started reading this thread because I have loads of books to read and I am getting sucked into buying more, but I shall resist. I do get mine from the library but every now and then I have a mental block on taking books back..I took some back yesterday that I think are almost a year overdue...I dumped em in the self serve and ran..I shall look online later to see how much I owe. I also don't really have much time to read cos I am either here, farming, studying (supposedly), working (again supposedly) and looking after family.....but I do miss reading..
