Stopped reading Two Caravans because Jane Green's Girl Friday became available at the library, I love her books but won't buy them until they're in Tesco on a 2 for £7 offer! Enjoying it but I think she needs to come up with a new subject matter than isn't "disillusioned housewife in Connecticut realises she doesn't want to be a Wall Street widow"...My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

I've read Almost Moon and I have to say you didn't miss much! In fact, it went downhill after the first chapter...
Has anyone read Jasper Fforde's Shades of Grey? I LOVE the Thursday Next series, but struggling to get into this one
I can't believe I didn't manage to read anything yesterday - on World Book day and everything!LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -
Well seeing as it's world book day I'll make good use of my need for an early night and curl up with one of my half read books - think it'll be an american history a future (or whatever it's called) as I'm too tired for my history book and I really shouldn't start Lovely Bones until I finish one of the other three I have on the go here.
Oh but but but .................. Lovely Bones is a totally brilliant book and you will get totally hooked on it;):D0 -
I have finished Duncan Bannatyne's book . It was a "good read" but by the time I had finished the book I realised I didn't really like him LOL :rotfl:
Next. I am going to finish "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night" Again I was about a quarter of the way through this. (This challenge is going to be about me finishing half read books I think:D) I was really enjoying this book and I can't remember why I stopped reading it.
Happy Reading0 -

And that's whay i won't start it till I've finished one of the other three - I've already read a Poirot, Sophie kinsella novel and Slumdog Millionaire/Q&A whilst ignoring them! And it's not like I'm not enjoying them either.0 -
Good thinking Vixstar, I loved it, just hope the film does it justice. Thanks for confirmation on Almost Moon..glad I didn't persevere. It's a rarity for me to give in so easily.
Friend at work gave me a Mary Higgins Clark today, yet to venture into her world so that's another on the to read pile.DC.

Have this on a wish list as Positive and Focused recommended it. Interesting that you felt that way about him. But then he doesn't come across as a particularly warm person in anything I've seen him interviewed in .DC.

I'm glad its not just me that does this, half my unread stash I have got halfway through and then either got bored or its been too long in between reads so I have completely forgotten what's happened before. I did this with My Favourite Wife by Tony Parsons and A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby both of which I'd love to finish because I was enjoying them at the time I seem to remember.
Both me and OH are 'trying' to spring clean and de-clutter at the same time, so I'm going to make a list this week and see just how many books I have in my to-do list. All the coffee in Columbia won't make me a morning person...

I love Stephen King and I have a degree in English Literature. I must admit I was a bit snobbish about him until I read The Dark Tower series and thought it was great. I've read a lot of his stuff now and enjoy how much of it is interconnected and characters from one book pop up in another - usually only glimpsed or mentioned once. Just finished The Tommyknockers and wasn't keen on it although liked parts of it and also the glimpse of Pennywise in the drains!
Reading "Roman Blood" by Stephen Saylor now, about Gordianus the Finder, who investigates suspicious circumstances in Ancient Rome. This is the first book in the series but have read books 7 and 8 out of order from the library and enjoyed them.
Talking of investigations does anyone read the Matthew Bartholomew books by Susanna Gregory? It's a great series set in 14th century Cambridge and follows a doctor working as the university "Corpse Examiner". It's quite silly stuff but an enjoyable read.
The Tommyknockers is the only Steven King I've ever read, I really didn't like it, even as a teenager I thought it was a bit kitsch and predictable, but I've heard a few times that it's not one of his best and I should try others. I've got the first Dark Tower one, but I can't read it yet cos then I'd need the others and that'd mean buying more books!
The Stephen Saylor ones sound interesting, right up my street. I bought a notebook this morning for all the recommendations, so I'll be putting them in there. Down in DT there's a thread about what people are reading and that's interesting too. I'm being strong though and not letting it lead me astray!Erm....yes?! I mean, I would like you all to celebrate in style, but we all took solomn vows not to buy any more books (didn't we, Different_Corner?!) and I think it would be adultering on the books we already own, and reinforcing their already low sense of self-esteem, to pass them up for even more books without reading them.
Think of your books. Think of how they feel when you go to the bookshop.
P.S. I've got the croc postcard. In fact, I have quite a few 'World Book Day' postcards which I need to send. I shall have to do my best to write them and send them ASAP.
I love the idea of being adulterous to books, maybe if I remind myself of that every time I'm tempted to buy a new book I'll be able to resist more!Different_Corner wrote: »Hope you enjoy Lovely Bones. I tried very hard with Almost Moon but didn't get past the first chapter.
Finished Starting Over, wasn't overly impressed.
Happy Friday.
I enjoyed Lovely Bones, although some bits are a bit bizarre and ruined it for me. I loved Lucky, which is a true story of her rape and recovery, very moving. But Almost Moon really disappointed me, to be honest I can't actually remember anything about it other than I didn't like it.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

I haven't heard of that one, what's it about? I love the Thursday Next ones too, but didn't like the nursery rhyme ones, although I only read the humpty dumpty one.coffeeholic wrote: »I'm glad its not just me that does this, half my unread stash I have got halfway through and then either got bored or its been too long in between reads so I have completely forgotten what's happened before. I do that too, I'm gutted that I stopped halfway through War and Peace, cos I don't think I'll be able to pick it up again and I'll have to start again - that's like 500 pages I have to re-read! I've got a loads more half read too, although some of them I think I'll be able to just pick up where I left off.
I'm between books right now, I've picked up a couple but they haven't grabbed me, so I might try and find a couple that I was enjoying but hadn't finished. Usually when I'm like this I buy more to kick start myself, but not this time!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
