Congratulations island.girl enjoy our newborn they are so precious. My DD2 had a little boy last week so I'm just getting used to being a nana, it really is a joy.

Took a small break from knitting to actually read a few pages last night, I'm still only just near the beginning of house at riverton but it's very promising and already drawing me in.

Huge congratulations from me too, Island.girl:beer:

Since you first mentioned The House at Riverton I remembered that I had a copy in a box of books I'd set aside to sell at my next car boot sale. It was in a batch given to me by a friend ages ago but I've so much to read that if something doesn't appeal to me at first sight I tend to sell it whilst it's still in 'good as new' condition:o.

Have now retrieved it and will start on it next. I can still sell it when I've finished:j

I loved that book, and it's on my reread shelf before I give it away

I might have copied the same style signature as you. I kept on looking at yours and I was like, wow it looks nice. I hope you don't mind :rotfl:

Still can't figure out how to put a link in my signature though, it's proving difficult

Thanks very much, MrCrimeFiction:T. No, I certainly don't mind, in fact I'm flattered:rotfl:

Was over on the £1000 Emergency Fund Challenge before I came over here and saw your latest post. Well done on your savings, you're doing really well. I agree about it becoming a bit addictive:). Funnily, when I looked at your signature there I thought it looked familiar somehow, now I realise why that is:rotfl:
  • Right, change of plan on the reading front! Have just been dipping into books recently, have had a few domestic traumas and haven't had the time or peace to get really lost in a book:(. Hopefully back to normal again (if anything I do is ever 'normal' :o).

Will leave House at Riverton on the shelf for now and am going to get stuck in to reading/re-reading all Thomas Hardy's novels. I know lots of people find him 'old hat' and dislike his pessimism but there's just something about his characters and settings that beguiles me. I don't tend to keep many books to re-read but Far from the Madding Crowd is an exception. Only finished it for the umpteenth time last year so will leave that aside for now. Have just discovered my very yellowed copy of TheTrumpet Major which we 'did' for 'O' Level GCE. Loved it then so will be interested to see if it still has an appeal. Have also found a copy of A Pair of Blue Eyes which I'd never heard of before. It's one of his earliest novels and not very long so will be starting that tonight:j.
  • Just found this thread and so happy I have, BF thinks i'm weird that I find books and reading enjoyable (He can stick to his TopGear magazine)

We are waiting to move in to our first house together! (fingers crossed in the next 2 weeks) so I have been busy clearing out some stuff.

I have a tub full of books that I will be taking with me, mainly collections like HP or Phillippa Gregory (discovered her last year and went on a buying spree), although my dad is currently working his way through her books too. I think I enjoyed The King's Curse the most as I find Henry VIII interesting anyway.

This year I have read so far:

    - 50 Shades of Grey series (again) in anticipation of the film (big let down)
    - Morganville Vampire series (books 1 -10) by Rachel Caine (a friend is lending me these so have books 11 - 14 still to go)
    - Black Dagger Brotherhood - The Shadows by JR Ward
    - The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

Anyway, friend from work has just brought next 4 Morganville books today so thats me set for another couple of weeks at most, then my dad has lent me a Stuart McBride book

    Welcome kirstie,
I read the 50 Shades books but didn't bother with the film as it got such bad reviews.
I love Philippa Gregory books but haven't read kings curse yet. I love the ones in the Tudor era ie henrys wives stories.
I've got all the HP books and keep saying I must read them but so far other things get in front of them in the queue.

  • Well so far "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" is very good and I've learnt a lot already. If only I was 9 like the chap in the book. Onwards and upwards

  • Started on A Pair of Blue Eyes by Thomas Hardy last night. Am enjoying it so far but find these more dated books slower going than my usual crime fiction because of the language and writing style.

I thought it would be a fairly quick read as it's not all that long but oh boy, the print is soooo small:eek:. It might take me a lot longer than I expected:rotfl:.
