Glad I could refresh your memory about Jean Plaidy, Bubblesmum. She was flavour of the month once upon a time and I'm reassured that it wasn't just me who didn't get along with her;)
Lots of Philippa Gregory recommendations there, mrs-moneypenny. Thanks very much for taking the time and trouble to list them and give brief resumes:T. I'll definitely be seeking her out now. I feel like a change of genre, I spend too much time immersed in crime novels of all sorts:eek:.0 -
What is the most someone is prepared to pay for a paperback book in a charity shop?
Saw a Phillipa Gregory paperback for £2. Didn't buy it - was I being too tight?2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

Cheapest here in CSs for books is £ 1, some do a 3 for 2 - coffee mornings are betterFirst they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
I couldn't afford £2 for a second-hand book wherever it's from:o. A lot of the charity shops local to me are pricing themselves out of the market for most things nowadays. I rarely buy anything there any more. Lots of people I know feel the same.
2 charities have opened book shops in my nearest market town. They look very swish and are fitted out like upmarket and expensive regular bookshops. They both had special offers when they opened but even run of the mill secondhand paperback novels were £1 each or more, pretty ordinary hardbacks were £2.50 upwards:eek:. Since then they've put their prices up even higher. Needless to say I don't even venture inside.
I sell books in lovely condition on car boot sales and usually price them at 40p each and 3 for £1. Even at that price they don't fly out:(0 -

I went to WHSmith with DD2 who needed a present for a friend and they had a clearance shelf for £ 1 and £ 2. I was very tempted, especially by Kate Mosse's Winter Ghosts and very proud of myself that I left it behind! Give me a good pat on the back, folksFirst they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0
