InaPickle - was that £5.20 just for the beer?
Yes! I didn't know it would be that expensive, else I wouldn't have got one! (The books kind of make up for it, though.)
I mentioned a Doc Brown rep tribute to Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London earlier in this thread... well, he is Zadie Smith's brother! What amazingly talented siblings!
Clearly a talented family. :TPlease call me 'Pickle'

Wow. People freely admit to giving money to Jeffrey Archer after his crimes. Do you also still buy Rolf Harris and Gary Glitter merchandise to maintain their defence funds?
What a strange thing to say, but, of course, I appreciate that people on here are free to express whatever opinions they like. Jeffrey Archer's crimes were NOT child-abuse, unlike the other two. I certainly would have nothing to do with anything produced and sold by Harris and Glitter or anyone remotely involved in the type of crimes they have committed.
I'd be very interested to know, Nada, whether you investigate the background of all writers of books you consider buying as very many highly-rated authors have somewhat 'murky' pasts.0 -
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion Nada, I agree with carbootcrazy Jeffrey Archers crimes were not child abuse so you can't really put him in the same category as those two.

Sex sells? lol i do like a good Ken Follett bookWow. People freely admit to giving money to Jeffrey Archer after his crimes. I'd be more interested to know if Nada pays for the BBC TV licence? and contributes to paying for all the sexual preditors that they have employed and still employ and everything that goes along with it.
Personnally read who u want to read. their are many real life autobiographies of real criminals - paul ferris, the krays, lots and lots from both sides of the Irish war, and none of them are particulary 'nice' to read about. but they sell, what did jeffery archer do? tell a lie? its not as if he skinned a man alive, and he's not the first person to tell a lie. and certainly not the only member of parliament to lie. they do it every day and yet are not called out on it. and for the moment, he has not been accused of being part of the peadophile ring in parliament, so he at least has that going for him!
Back to books... almost finished book 4! cant wait to get started on book 5 tonight :j:jLiving Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. I was also given the first four. It makes me feel good when I read books that I have got free. It also makes me feel even better when I am able to pass books on. (Mind you there are some authors that I can't part with).

What authors do people like to keep?
The main author that I keep is Diana Gabaldon.
Like you I enjoy passing on books to others and introducing them to new authors, last year I passed a book on to someone who read it in hospital and then gave it to a nurse!Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
Diana Gabaldon, Outlander0 -
Brother-in-law has given me a book on alotments, so that I can start up my own veg plot at the end of my garden - a different sort of read.
Still reading Philippa Greogory's book - The Lady of the Rivers - enjoying it - about half way through.
Don't seem to be watching much tv or films lately - much rather have my head in a book.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

Finished Stuart MacBride - The Missing and the Dead.
Fantastic read and I urge you all to get a copy. The way he writes is just so real..
That's me now read all of his books, so onto his short stories which I've downloaded from Itunes. Once they are done onto the new book by Luke Delaney, which I'm so excited to even talk about..
It might be bad of me, but I dont really want to go back to Jo Nesbo..
But then again why spend more money on books when I have 30+ in my house that I haven't bothered to read.. Naughty me.

I finished Britain from Above, that was a lovely book. The pictures were fab and the information was good.
After hearing about Terry Pratchett passing, I've bumped by Discworld novels up the list, so I've just finished Eric, was good to be reacquainted with luggage and Rincewind.
I've got the next Gavin Extence book, The Mirror World of Melody Black, waiting for me at the library, so that's the next one I'll be working my way through.
I'm enjoying using my library card to access books that I would probably read anyway.
Still working through the fairytales, but I've nearly finished.0 -
Finished lily of love lane by carol rivers, it was one my mums gave me, an enjoyable easy fiction read about the east end between the wars and the life of one particular Young girl who got caught up in the politics of the blackshirts
