Just finished Jeffrey Archer no 4 in the Barrington/Clifton saga. Brilliant read. Pleased that number five has just come out. Aunt may be buying it for my birthday which is only a few months away.
Managed to pick up 'The lady of the rivers' by Philippa Gregory from a charity shop. Going to read 'The Cousins' Wars', whilst waiting for the next JA book, already have the sequels - the White queen and the red queen so won't need to go hunting in cs for them.

  • I'm a Jeffrey Archer fan too, Gem-gem:j. Picked up an early one of his at an airport when going on holiday decades ago just expecting a relaxing poolside read. Instead, I was hooked, couldn't put it down, and was so sorry when it was finished! I went on to read lots of his others after that. Never found a bad one.

I haven't read any of his latest books, must seek them out from the library maybe (after vowing not to buy any more books until I've read what I've already got:o). Some snobby people are very sarcastic about his writing skills but in my opinion that man is one of the best storytellers around:T

    Hi all!

So I went for a beer with a friend near where we study an I was charged a whopping £5.20 for something not that spectacular (!!!!!) BUT someone had dropped a large box of books off to the bar so the barman let us take whatever we wanted so I prefer to think that I "bought" the following books an the beet all at a reasonable(-ish) price:

    INs:

    The Secret History: Donna Tart
    White Teeth: Zadie Smith

Also, RIP the wonerful Terry Pratchett. I'm reading Steam as we speak.

May Death be the wonderful character you painted him to be and may the afterlife be wonderful and unexpected.

finished GoT book 3 on Thursday night or Friday cant rememebr now, started book 4 yesterday and already 249 pages in!
asked my sister to get me the next 2 in line from her work on a buy 2 for £7 thingy, she didnt say and then yesterday for mothers day my son handed me the book 5, and my sis says their was none otehrs left, her bf went to wh smith for it! grr. so my mum offered to pay for it for me instead. i was really rather annoyed that she paid £9 for 1 book.

I started Phillippa Gregory - The Other Boleyn Girl on Thursday at work, not that far into it yet, and im unsure if im going to stick with it.

Just finished the world according to Joan, enjoyed it and agreed with a lot of her opinions.
It's either going to my mum or the CS shop now.

Need to go and check my shelf to see what jumps off at me for the next read.

InaPickle - was that £5.20 just for the beer?

I like the two books you picked up, though - they're a couple of good'uns!

I mentioned a Doc Brown rep tribute to Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London earlier in this thread... well, he is Zadie Smith's brother! What amazingly talented siblings!
    Keep reading books!

Yes, I have heard that too. But I agree with you. I really enjoy his books. And I think I have read them alll. At the end of the day tHey allow me to escape into a different world for a few hours each week, which helps me to switch off and sleep and that can't ever be a bad thing.

I've just been given the first three books from the Clifton series by Jeffrey Archer and the comments here have encouraged me to read them soon. At the moment though I'm reading Edge of Eternity by Ken Follett which finishes the century trilogy, very good but why does it have to have so many sex scenes.

Wow. People freely admit to giving money to Jeffrey Archer after his crimes. Do you also still buy Rolf Harris and Gary Glitter merchandise to maintain their defence funds?
