DD3 asked me if i wanted a kindle for my birthday, to be honest i dont think i could justify one as i have shelves of books which i buy cheaply at carboots and charity shops then pass on. but if i had a kindle surely that would be the end of cheap books unless they were the free 'classics'

still reading whistling for the elephants and enjoying it.

I kind of feel the same... If I commuted by train then *maybe* I could justify it. I feel I ought to give a kindle a go as everyone I know who has one swears they are brilliant but, to be really honest, I like to not have to rely on a battery's lifespan to entertain myself!

(Oh dear, I re-read that and got the giggles, SO childish! :D)

Also, one of my favourite things is reading books in the bath... I suspect that, my natural clumsiness and kindles may not be the best mix...

What I actually came on here for...

I finished a book from the stash!

"The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant. A good read, interesting perspective on an old story, I would give it a 3.5/5.

Probably not a keeper, but might well go to friends. :)

James Herriot still going in the background, but that is a re-read so doesn't really count...

thanks for the red tent comment, that has been on my TBR shelf for ages really must move it up a few spaces. trouble is i buy or get given new books they go on the top of the pile so it takes someone on here or goodreads to mention a book and remind me to give my shelves a shuffle round. i really should put the new stuff at the bottom of the stacks.
thanks also for the kindle comments feel better knowing im not the only one who feels better with a tree book.:)

Only because my Keyboard Kindle is on its last legs (I'm dreading the day it does die as it was a Christmas present!)

For anyone unsure about getting a kindle - I was very very hesitant before I got my kindle (it took a lot of persuading from my parents but lack of bookshelves/room helped sway me) - I wouldn't like to not have one now.

It was a suitcase space saver when I was in Italy last year - it lasted the full two weeks and didn't need charging whilst I was there. I would also say that it's helped my wrists (I have weak wrists and can't hold a heavy book for too long) - I can read LOTR for a number of hours and don't have as much pain :)

Question for you Sneezy - if you have one old kindle, and buy a new replacement, can you transfer your library onto the new one?

You can Lotti - but its slow & painful as you have to do it book by book (one of the few downsides imo).

You can also import your collections and when you download books that were previous in a particular collection it'll remember where it should go - I have over 700 in my TBR collection and 10 in current reads  :o

  • Hi everyone, just spotted this challenge and think I need it! Can I join in please?

I am somewhat addicted to book buying and definitely have too many unread/half-read books taking up space! I've just had a big clear out of books to the local charity shop which has enabled me to see just how many I have (though haven't counted yet, will try to do so at weekend) and I've re-joined the library so am ready to commit to buying no new books until I've read the ones I have!

Just jumping in - if you buy your new kindle from Amazon, it should automatically transfer your amazon library - I have a kindle and a kindle fire and all my books show on both without me having done anything. If you've bought books elsewhere from amazon though, you'll need to transfer these manually.
