Finished 'The Help' its embarrassing how bad things were such a short time ago.
The help is written from the perspective of black maids in Tennessee in the 1950s describing how they worked for various white families and brought up the children but the degree of segregation and racism was terrible, the white women that employed them seemed to have no idea at all how badly they were behaving. The 'help' are persuaded to write their stories and experiences down for a book but live in fear of being found out and punished for what they are doing.
The book is lot more detailed than the film, but both a very good and i would recommend them.

got atonement off the tbr shelf

Finished "The Silver Linings Playbook". Thought it was brilliant. Really liked the characters and how it ended. Want to see the film now! Think my next book is going to be "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

Finished Stuart A Life Backwards, really enjoyed it.

    Started Dusty Warriors.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

After reading three of the true blood series I've given up and admited they are not for me I honestly can't see what all the amazing reviews are about. I'm now reading The help and enjoying so far. Thanks Mrs moneypenny for the recommendation.
Have a fab weekend everyone. I'm hopeing to get at least an hour in the garden with my book.

I am struggling to get into a book at the moment. Read about 50 pages of Good Omens but was finding it a bit slow and couldn't say I was really enjoying it so I've put it aside for now.

I have brought Don't Let Me Go by Catherine Ryan Hyde to read at lunch today so I'll see how I get on with that.

I am trying not to do what I usually do when I can't settle on a book and so read either Pay It Forward or To Kill A Mockingbird. That wouldn't help my tbr pile!!

    finally finished another book:

#25 The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling 2/5

and this one is definitely in the 'leaving the house' pile, sadly, as it was a birthday present from DH. however....did i hate it? hate is probably a little too strong a word, but i almost gave up on it and i NEVER give up on books. shame.

    still, onwards and upwards! :)

  • Problem is with people stopping spending is then less things get bought i.e. books you dont buy them the author doesnt get paid and they cant make a living iv just written my first book but no one has bought it yet so im struggling , its important to spend just as much as save , please do check out my short book on amazon kindle its only 79 pence at the moment its called *not an office romance, just sex!*
you need to spend where your confident its going to benefit hardworking people not some big company who doesnt pay uk tax , ie. independent farm shops are essential to a communityy you may have a car and can drive to tesco but if you dont use the farm shop it cant survive on a few local residents who cant drive and essentially need the farm shop
