  • I must confess an incoming over the weekend. Took loads of bags to the charity shop and only came out with a book and a birthday present so not bad. The book was The vintage teacup club and only cost 49p so don't feel too bad!

  • Been reading 6 books read a bit of one book and put it down then the next book etc.Have a gap on my bookshelf now haven't seen one that big in years.I stop reading book after the 2nd page if can't get it in my head.Can't believe had some books on my shelves for years and when I get round to reading them find out not worth reading.Bookcrossing mine after finished them so if I don't read them someone else will.
    A suggestion http://www.amazon.co.uk/One-Books-Joe-Queenan/dp/0670025828/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358863764&sr=1-1
    You should read this book as Queenan reads 14 x books at a time. He may not return to a book until after 20 years but he gets back to them in the end!
    I have 14 on my goodreads reading at the moment list!!!:money::money::beer::beer:

  • Greetings!

    Another one down:

    Book #4
    The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

    This was a great, quick read. Possible the best YA fantasy book I've read in quite a while.

    Now onwards to #5...

    Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

    Hi everyone! I seem to be making epic progress on the to be read mountain of books. I finished one shelf last year and now have almost finished a second! Only one more to go and then I can start buying again!

    Finished;

    Lost Souls by Poppy Z Brite
    City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
    City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare
    City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
    City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

    Now on to When God Was a Rabbit. Liking it so far!
    Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £
    LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000
    Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 2017
  • The title of this thread caught my eye. A couple of days ago I joined Good Reads and can't believe how many books I had to enter on my 'to read' shelf.

    I consider myself to be a fast reader and I read nearly every night but apparently I can buy books quicker!

    Since buying a kindle I've neglected my full bookshelves but I'm now determined to read all those books I've paid good money for over the years....once I've finished entering them on the app and get a total figure :(
  • I was wondering how many of you have a database/spreadsheet/paper list of your book collections?

    I realised a few years back that if I were to have a house fire (heaven forbid) I would never remember all of the books I had owned, and would possibly never be able to afford to replace them all anyway! So when I could eventually afford to take out contents insurance I decided to tackle the mammoth task of cataloguing them all. I must admit it also pandered to my slight OCD tendencies too ;)

    So now I have a (fairly) simple Excel worksheet list with the following fields:

    Status - currently reading/next reads/readNrid

    Approx Purchase Date - this was a little harder to remember, but is meant to prompt me to read more that have been languishing on the shelves for the longest time

    ISBN - in progress, but it's very time consuming...
    Title
    Author
    Genre
    Cover Type

    Notes - first editions/special editions/details of co-writers or illustrators/note of gifters

    In Progress
    Read
    Date Read
    To Read
    Reference
    Need to Restart

    - the last 6 fields to aid me with my stats.

    This is how I know, at a glance, that I have far too many books :rotfl:

    I also have other sheets in the file for my DVDs and CDs.

    Anyone else keep such a database...oh....and...who *ahem*...just LOVES keeping it updated? :o
