YAAYA have finished my first book of 2012 - ok I will have done by the time I get home on the tram tonight (don't you hate it when you are 2 pages from finishing and you have to get off public transport in order to go to work!!) It was Terry Pratchetts - Discworld - The Hogfather!! It was good, have only read 3 in the set now and bits of the books I love other bits I start to get a bit "bored now" or confused.

next book (in my bag ready to start on way home if time allows)...... Chelsea Cains "Night Season". LOVED the other 3 in the set and was veryyy good and didn't buy this book when it came out (Santa did) so been itching to start it.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

I'd like to join too please!

Just had a quick look and over 60 I haven't read and a few more I got for Xmas. I'm in a book club too, so at least I get a month a book free from that, which goes back! But it does mean less time to wade through the others.

I tend to save up paperbacks to take on hols being lighter (not convinced on the Kindle front as it costs more than the library and 2nd hand shops and not as easy to share with others are my main issues). Also wouldn't like to leave a Kindle on the beach whilst swimming.

Sold quite a few on greenmetropolis over the years, but then drifted into bookmooch instead, which I've found great - except, that of course you're basically swapping books so you don't actually get your stash down!

I've received 18 books so far from Bookmooch and given 37. Did have a mild panic when the site went down for several days as thought I'd lost all my "credit". So when it came back up I ordered quite a few!

Will do a proper count and sort and see how I get on!
    Thanks for the incentive all.

scubaangel - interested to know how you load books from a disk onto a Kindle please?
  • Hi all, just popping in to introduce myself! I love the look of this challenge. Since last year I've been giving myself a target of reading one of my own books every 4 weeks. I do this quite easily, but it leaves me time in between to read free e books or library books which is a bit naughty, but going to make a concerted effort this year not to spend on books and to get the stash down.

I'm also trying to work my way through the 1001 books to read before you die. I have read more than the 1 I have logged in my sig, but I've not counted them as I want to read them in order, which hubby finds HILARIOUS! I'm a certifiable book geek.

That's good to know! I've been a bit put off by the size which is silly because I regularly read books of about 900 pages!
I must say your admission that you regularly read books of 900pages or more has intrigued me!:money:
So the first questions I need to ask is 1) what do you read that is of this substantial size and 2) how do you read.
For a person not to be deterred and or have skills psyche to tackle 900 page books must have taken some practice.

I love reading really long books. I find myself myself feeling cheated as some books seem so short sometimes when you've read a long book.

    The Outlander series is long.

chickywiggle - I loved The Hogfather! It was the first Terry Pratchett book I read, well actually listened to, as my Mum got it on tape for a long journey. Many years later I have now read nearly all of the discworld books, think I've got 3 or 4 to go, and I would recommend the more recent books as the best although they are all very good.

hattifattener - where is this list of 1001 books to read before you die? I'd probably try to read them in order too, otherwise I wouldn't know where to start!

Thanks for my welcome InaPickle :)

No reading for me so far today, does anyone else find they start some books really slowly?

Think 900 or more might have been a slight exaggeration :o! I've just had a look and three of the game of thrones series are between 800-900. Imprimatur, Wolf Hall and Golden Fool are all around 700 pages. It tends to be the small paperbacks that have more pages.

    The Outlander series is long.

That's how I feel, I read a couple of long books then short books seem gone in the blink of an eye!

  • I have today finished the Kite Runner, oh my what a book :T talk about emotionally exhausted :o

Picked up Under the Dome by Stephen King but looked at 877 pages and put it back down again as I have a book club meet in 10 days and definitely won't finish before then.

Have picked up Julie Corbin Tell Me No Secrets - seems to be a bit of a thriller, so far so good ;)
    Just keep swimming!
