Agreed with the famous five! Just reading Five go off in a Caravan to my son. The first one i've read to him and he's loving it. He asked me last night if i'd ever read it before and I said...yes probably 30 years ago!
What i'd love to find is a copy of 'Green Smoke' my favourite kids book about a Dragon who lived in a cave in Cornwall.LBM 10/08 £12510.74/0 -

Hi everyone - only just discovered this thread and I'd love to join if that's ok?
I am currently half way through Wuthering Heights which I've never read before but unfortunately had to stop reading as The Lost Symbol (Dan Brown) became available on my reservation list at the library and you only get 2 weeks so I'm ploughing through it!
This year I think I've bought:
Nick Hornby - Juliet, Naked - read it, enjoyed it but not as much as his others. Keeping.
Mike Gayle - The To Do List - read it, great and very inspiring. Keeping.
Sophie Kinsella - Twenties Girl - read it, I love Sophie, she's a lovely writer. Keeping.
Argh, does that mean I have to get rid of 3 books or can I keep them as I owned them before the challenge started?!
Next up after Wuthering Heights and The Lost Symbol, I will finish the first True Blood book, started reading that too but got bored. My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.0 -

sorry to go off thread!Carolbee0 -
I'd love an e reader, but my biggest problem with them is the ebooks themselves - they cost the same as real books but can't be resold, so there's not much point in not getting the real ones.
I find that bizarre. I don't know why they are expecting us to pay the same for something that sort of doesn't exist and can't be sold on. When music downloads were introduced it was cheaper to download a single than it was buying a CD single.
I won't be getting an e reader 'cause the only place I would use it is when I am commuting on public transport. As I generally travel through some pretty rough areas of London there is no way I am going to sit there with a couple hundred quid of technology in my hand!0 -
I was in W H Smiths yesterday and it was BOGOF on certain books, was so tempted as there were a few I wanted but I thought of this thread and also the box of unread books under my bed and I walked away!!0

Funny thing happened today, I arranged a swap on www.readitswapit.co.uk, had it accepted, and when the other members address popped up it was less than a mile from me! How funny is that...so shes dropping by tomorrow...saved ourselves the postage. Woop woop!2016: No Clutter to Be Seen 805/2016

Morning,
didn't sleep too well last night so finished Michael Connelly Brass Verdict, trying to decide what to read next. Have got some Harlan Coben that I picked up in charity shop, that are quite a quick read, but think I might start alternating favourite genre stuff with classics. Looking at the 3 unfinished novels by Jane Austen, then Journey to the Centre of the Earth.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
