Xandersmum, sorry you are having such a horrible time at the moment. Under the circumstances, I think we can turn a blind eye to your moment of weaknessYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

I have done a very bad thing and have ordered the next one off of Amazon - it was only a penny plus postage! I know it was very bad, but I'm so fed up at the moment. My little man was due to have his first round of botox and a hip procedure under anestetic today and it got cancelled late last night, my mum has terminal cancer and is really down too so I am tring to keep her cheerful and fighting, and DH came down with man flu and is being a real PITA! Anyway, am waffling now, going back to my book!!
Sometimes a little treat is exactly what is required!;) Dont be hard on yourself and enjoy your book when it comes!
Sending you ((hugs)) and sorry youre having a tough time.

Thanks Guys - having a much better day today!! Went for a nice window shop with mum and little man, and you have both made me feel less guilty!! Have sorted out a huge bag of books to go to the charity book shop at Mum's hospital next week, so feel I have absolved myself a bit too!!

Exactly - giving the books to charity more than makes up for a tiny spend on Ama£on!
Glad you had a better day!:)

Hi all, finished The Guernesy Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - read most of it on a girlie holiday in the Lakes and was driving home really looking forward to the last 40 pages, then my OH of 3 years who I'd just moved in with broke up with me. I read the rest but didn't really take it in. Moved onto Pies and Prejudice by Stuart Maconie, hoping it'll be light and amusing and not romantic in any shape or form. Looks like I'll have a lot more reading time on my hands nowWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0

Fascinating book. Here's a link to a little loose organisation who have regular meetings to discuss this and similar things in a skeptical fashion in pubs.

There is probably a group near you.
The talk by David Colquhoun was excellent and he mentioned "Bad Science" several times.
Skeptics in the pub is well worth checking out if this bad science stuff bothers you.

Well I bit the bullet and bought myself a Kindle, expecting it to be delivered today (Sat) at some point, so am ridiculously excited about it! Still have my bag of unread books to work through though so will have to keep making an effort to get to the bottom of the bag! It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.
