I think this is a great idea, I join but not sure what to do. I was thinking of having a go at knitting, baking more and trying to meal plan so that I dont end up with as much waste."Let your boat of life be light, pack only what you need- A homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends worth the name, someone to love and someone who loves you, a cat, a dog, a pipe or two enough to eat, enough to wear and a little more than enough to drink, as thirst is a dangerous thing" Jerome k. DS has asked for a Tom Baker Style Dr Who scarf as part of his Xmas pressie so I need to start to start knitting it. If I start now it might be done by Xmas.
I'll make knitting my lenten skill - love this idea btw!0 -
So my project for Lent is to learn to make:
CEREAL BARS!
I know this might sound weird but we buy about 3 packs of these a week and I am sure I can make them better and cheaper. I am guessing they are just flapjacks with added extras but I will do a bit of research. Will report back with results. Any recipes much appreciated.0 -
Hmm, for Lent I will take back up my knitting and do some funky blanket things...either for me or for mum's dog depending on how they turn out. I'd also like to walk 5km (3 miles a day)** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

Go on then, I'll actually read the books I have on flower arranging, and do more than bung them in a vase
:rotfl:
Meant to add, knitting in the round is really easy once you get in the swing. Old sets used to have 5 needles ( lots of mine have). Makes it easier, 4 with stitches on and 1 working needle, not so much of a stretch for smaller items. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
My mother crocheted, but I never really took to it, maybe now is the time to start again? I've got a bag full of crochet hooks, and lots of yarn of various colours and thicknesses, so no excuse not to!
Knitting started again during the Christmas cold spell - so far my friend has done well with a guernsey, a wooly hat and a set of gloves for work - he needs to work in cold conditions, with fiddly components, so these are gloves with the ring and little finger knitted fully and the rest "cut-off" so that his fingertips are free. In return for that, he's going to open another section in the back garden for me to put in more veggies... a man with a mattock can do in a couple of hours what would take me a couple of days with a spade!
Major de-clutters are needed, and my local CS has been seeing a fall in donations recently, so that's a further incentive....
And I'm researching getting a couple of chickens...0 -
Ooh interesting ... For 2010 I wanted to try my hand at soft furnishings so I shall add my new things to learn here
1) I would like to learn to make a roman blind, cushion covers and bed runner for our bedroom (had a quote of £350 for the blind alone, and that was unlined  )
or one with step by step instructions
watch how to do it on a video
I learn better that way.
I was considering making roman blinds for my stupidly large kitchen windows as well

Hmm... I'm not sure how much of a challenge this will be but I'm going to try and scrounge around for enough Old Style Badges to polish up and fit on all my jackets, and my shopping trolley... maybe even my mobility scooter...
