I have tried and tried to crochet and give up (perhaps a bit too..) easily so I'm in to try again. I have a how to book and hooks and wool so fingers crossed I can do it this time. Great idea for a thread, thank you :j2025 - Declutter to Move House

I love this idea:beer: . I have been having a think of which skill I would like to learn for lent, my choices are:
- Learn to sew with a sewing machine and make something useful with it. I have my aunts sewing machine in our loft that she gave me about 4 years ago and I still haven't used it!
- Make my own Marmalade/jams. Although I don't have all the equipment yet, so may wait until later in the year when I am fully equiped.
- Make a rag rug (thanks poohbear59 for the idea!). My sisters used to do this alot, but I have never had a go myself.
- Learn more about nature and be able to indentify native wildlife, birds and trees. After a lovely day at Slimbridge last week, where we all tried to indentify birds with our guidebook, I realised how little I know about nature.I need to spend more time in the countryside and take notice of wildlife, as well as the flora and fauna.
I am going to choose at least 2 new skills for lent, good luck everyone :beer:Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set

I think I shall re-start baking bread at home, as I have neglected this beautiful and peaceful practice for a while. It will also focus me on reducing my personal spend, which of lately has been quite un-OS, I am embarrassed to admit! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

i am giving up bus travel to work for lent - there i have said it - work is just under 3 miles each way and i used to walk until i had surgery 18 months ago and discovered the bus! i will be taking up much needed exercise doing this and saving £3 a day as well as being more OS.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

How about an alternative OS craft? The Book People have this book, I saw it in their brochure this morning and thought of this thread.
Probably inappropriate, but it gave me awhen I saw it
.
Hope nobody takes offense, as none was intended.:o

I'm half way through Pulmonary Rehabilitation, I'm finding the exercises quite hard (but can notice an improvement).
SO on a slightly wobblier track, I'm going to explore more about how to manage my lung condition, pace myself more (so I don't cream cracker myself), exercise more (not too hard), eat less and make the most of every day.It matters not if you try and fail, and fail and try again; But it matters much if you try and fail, and fail to try again.

Great to see so many people taking up a new skill :T (apart possibly from taxidermy :rotfl: )
I've bought my fabric, and am deciding whether or not to invest in a cutter and rule. DH has agreed to make me a square template, and I have a meter rule (from Freecycle :j ) so may start with that.
