  • I can't find my crochet hooks so am off today to buy one more and a ball of bright coloured wool. Here's a link to a wonderful blog and instructions if anyone fancies learning how to crochet with me. I'm going to see if I can crochet one square before attempting the remaining 249 :rotfl:

    Started my promise :)

We're decorating our bedroom using Sanderson Dandelion clocks wallpaper on one wall... so purchased some matching fabric and a nice contrasting green (both Sanderson) to put two contrasting edges on the roman blind :)

Measured and cut, sewn the bands on, next is lining and rods etc :)

Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday, so on Ash Wednesday, it's Lent again :)

to recap, rather than give up, I like to learn a new Old Style skill for Lent. Firstly it was crochet:

    Last year it was quilting:

This year I want to learn to knit socks :D Does anyone have any patterns they'd like to share, please?

Will you be using four needles or two?

I made a pair of mittens using four needles many years ago. Never made socks but wouldn't mind a go.

I have double pointed needles (inherited or liberated :p from grandmothers mother and MIL). Never used them, but I think I ought to use them this time, so as to make this a proper challenge :T

How easy are they to manouevre?

Easy yes, you have three at anyone time with stitches on, the forth is used to knit the stitches onto, the freed needle then becomes the forth needle and the knits the next needle stitches, so on and so on. Basically you are knitting in rounds not rows.

Just read that back not sure it makes sense. :o

I'll join in. I'll have a try at teaching myself the basics of sewing. I can just about do one stitch by hand (not including cross stitch) so I want to learn the different kinds of stitches, what they are used for, and perhaps have a go at making a little something of my own. :)

Love this idea, PP, thank you

And I NEED that sunflower fabric in my life!

Will put my cap on to think about what I'd like to learn - have sort of mastered crochet, so might attempt to make a "thing" rather than just circles and squares :D
