Great to see so many people taking up a new skill :T (apart possibly from taxidermy :rotfl: )

I've bought my fabric, and am deciding whether or not to invest in a cutter and rule. DH has agreed to make me a square template, and I have a meter rule (from Freecycle :j ) so may start with that.

You can see the start of my project here :D

    Ooo, lovely fabric!

Thanks pen, I have been looking for a cutter and mat for ages. I even had them on my wish list for C'mas and b'day but still no luck. I've tried freegle and freecyle with none available. If you find a reasonably priced cutter anywhere please let me know. Thanks.

I have started my mat. It is made from old fleece jumpers and jackets.

  • Oh I think I might take something up for lent.

    No idea what though.

I love my cross stitch but rarely get 5 to sit and do things but think I might make some cards and gifts etc ready for Xmas this year usign x stitch so sitting down each day to do an hour or so of cross stitch could prove useful to me.

Think I shall pop off to find soem nice kits/gift sets on johnsons crafts as I have one to complete already which may take a week with all the finishing stitches and outlining but thats a mothers day gift so need to do it soon so I can get it framed - its been 10 years in the doing!:eek::eek:

Also wanted to add this is my 46 day without Coke or Coffee which I gave up when I found out I was expecting!!
    Time to find me again

That sounds really fun, I don't have much money to spend on anything new so I've decided to make some canvas collages for friends birthdays, but have never tried them before, so starting on those could be what I do. I borrowed a book on collage from the mobile library and I've got some canvases from The Works already and I'll be using my card making and jewellery stash to make unique canvases.

  • I'm going to give up watching evening TV. It's become a habit after work just flopping on the sofa and vegging in front of the goggle box as I usually don't have the energy for much else.

Instead I intend to divide my time between:

    1. Reading some good books. I have a pile by my bedside which I've had for months but haven't gotten round to.

    2. Learning to sew. My mum bought me a basic sewing machine for Xmas so hope to learn how to knock up simple cushion covers, curtains and such.
Wish me luck as the last time I used a sewing machine was over 30 years ago in "needlework lessons" at school.

Ok, as promised, just got back from town and I now have the tools, I just need to learn how to use them!!! 7 balls of wool (maybe too many lol!) and 3 different sized crochet hook things, and 2 "free" teach yourself crochet card things that make no sense AT ALL! So Im off to you tube now!

My crochet book arrived and I have achieved the first 2 trial rows. Off to practice some more and then start a granny square when I can work out the pattern and stitches

The trick is to take your time ,honest, and dont get dishartend, you will get it:)

I'm left handed and the way I learnt was with a book and a mirror so the illistrations were the right way for me and if I can do it.......:D

For Lent I intend to finish all the projects I've started thenI can try my hand at patchwork. I promised my self that I would not get any more crafty things till the on going things have been completed.:j
  • hmm... can i change my thing to something else! I am left handed too, so its taken ages to learn and I cant get the hang of wrapping the wool for tension, and I have now been at it for like 5.5 hours and have thus far managed this thing that is supposed to be a scarf - or at least the makings of one, since the nice youtube lady made it look easy, and the granny square went way wrong! tbh, the scarf isnt faring that well either as you can see!

Ooh interesting ... For 2010 I wanted to try my hand at soft furnishings so I shall add my new things to learn here :)

    1) I would like to learn to make a roman blind, cushion covers and bed runner for our bedroom (had a quote of £350 for the blind alone, and that was unlined  )

    2) Walk to work when weather/luggage/diary permits ... it's only 1.5 miles away but I have to be there for 7.30 and carry a laptop, text books, 30 exercise books, loads of marking and HM resources :o and often have to travel out to meetings etc... I think this will work out to 3 times a week
