More delays on Eurostar today! I hope you 'get there' this time bunglejemson!0

Yes, just saw this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8511857.stm
So, despite people's protests, the official report condemns Eurostar for inadequate preparation and planning for the snow and suggests its winterisation programme was not suited to the demands of the TGV - and that this problem could have been avoided.0 -

It wasn't the snow, as such, that caused the cancellations?
The engineering circumstances that caused the train failure were a bit extreme though and it was pretty unpredicted that trains would fail in that way.0 -
Well done OP and fingers crossed she said yes.
It certainly wouldn't bother me if my boyfriend blagged a free upgrade! People ask for upgrades all the time, in fact there's a whole section on this site on the ways of getting this, even without the inconvenience of having a previous holiday cancelled.
By the way, my son took his girlfriend to Paris yesterday and was delayed by nearly 5 hrs on Eurostar!! I would certainly not think he was tacky if he requested something for the inconvenience.
There seems to be some confusion in some peoples minds. What you can get away with morphs into what you are entitled to.
I certainly don't think it's wrong for the OP to push his luck and try and blag an upgrade in these circumstances. I may have done the same. What I would have done differently would have been to shrug my shoulders and say "oh well" if I failed in my attempt.
What is wrong when you try and blag an upgrade is to forget that you are pushing your luck and think that you are asking for something you are entitled to. If the company turns round and says "sorry, no upgrade- there's the compensation take it or leave it" then it's a bit unpleasant to go whining that the company is being anything other than reasonable.0 -
No confusion in my mind thank you. I wasn't stating whether I thought the OP was right or wrong to moan about Eurostar, I was just putting my thoughts on people calling the OP tacky and some even appear to think it was wrong of him to try in the first place.
Anyway, by posting on here he was advised to email a certain person and the OP got what he wanted, so well worth posting!!0 -
To the OP, the upgrade to Leisure Class is NOT the same as first class. I paid to go first class to Lillie and it was lovely, hot meal and wine etc, so when I went to Disney I thought I'd pay again for the extra, however even though it cost quite a bit extra, it definitely was not first class, cold 'packed' lunch and no wine and to be honest the seats were a bit 'shabby' too. If you're thinking of champers you'll need to take your own.
I found customer services quite poor when I complained, as I had booked online and at that time there was no mention of that service having leisure class, just standard and first. The customer services just told me there 'is no first and you paid for leisure' even though I had not, I'd paid for first!! Very 'computer says no!'
ETA, I have checked as this was a few years ago, it appears its changed now and leisure class is available now on all routes. Not sure how this relates to the 'old' first class. However in very small print it does say that Champers is NOT available on Disney service.:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

I think you misread what I wrote to be a direct criticism of yourself.0 -
Maybe because you quoted me?0

I think this sums you up totally and why I cannot endorse what I think is rather tacky behaviour on your part.0 -
