Hi all having a busy time at work and not able to post every day.
Just read your post JBD, I to have 5 stone to lose and just like Little Moog seem to spend all my time losing then putting on the same few pounds. I feel both inspired and daunted by your sucess. Well done to you and a reminder to me that it is possible, thank you.

Little Moog and LazyLiz I think the best thing to do is to set yourself small targets, but not so small that you don't get a sense of achievement. On one forum the suggestion was to initially aim for a loss of 10% of body weight. [eg starting weight of 15 stones = 210 pounds, target of 21 pounds loss [or 1.5 stones]]. It's not too daunting to think of 1.5 stones, but you will feel better once you have lost that amount, and it will motivate you to set a new target. Also remember it is not just a matter of looking slimmer and buying new clothes [although that feels great] you are also doing it for the good of your long term health, and believe me, you will feel the benefits. Especially if you do it the old style way as we are doing it on this thread, healthy food, exercise and fresh air through walking everywhere.
Good luck , it really is worth it.

mmmm Littlemoog that sounds really nice, esp on salmon. Wonder would it work on other oily fish as well like trout/tuna steaks do you think?

Molly any chance of your corn chowder recipe please and littlemoog how do you make your teryaki? hm or bottle? if hm would love a recipe :)

Here is the Corn Chowder. Now I dont know how many calories as I dont count calories as I try and eat mindfully. However it is a filling main meal for me and you could adapt it.

    Ingredients:
    1 tblspoon Olive Oil
    1 tblspoon butter
1 large leek, trimmed, quartered length ways and chopped
    2 bay leaves
    15 g fresh thyme leaves
2 medium waxy potatoes peeled and diced (220g total)
500 ml good quality veg stock (I use Marigold)
    1 tspoon cornflour
200ml milk (here you could use skimmed)
Corn - fresh/ frozen defrosted equivalent to three whole corn on cob
2 tomatoes - skinned, deseeded and finely diced
Small onion very thinly sliced and chopped or 4 spring onions
100 ml double cream (here you could substitute)
2 tblsppon hot chilli sauce or to taste
    Handful of fresh Coriander leaves

    Method:
Heat the oil and butter in large saucepan and cook leek, onion, bay leaves and thyme for 5 mins until softened and translucent

Add the potatoes and stock to saucepan and boil then simmer for 5 mins

Meanwhile combine cornflour and milk. Pour the mix into the saucepan and cook for a further 5 minutes.

Add sweetcorn and tomatoes, bring back to boil and cook for another 5 mins until potatoes and corn are tender.

Stir in cream and gently warm through. Season and add chilli if using. Remove bay leaves. Sprinkle with coriander and enjoy :T:T:T

I think the teriyaki would work equally well with tuna or beef fillet steak(which I quite often find in reduced section :money: )- you could just sear the steak/tuna to keep it rare and then reduce the sauce to serve over it sliced. Nom nom nom

  • Morning folks. Wow JBD you are doing amazingly well, you sound so determined too. I'm afraid I fell off the wagon big style yesterday so won't even list my food intake! As intended, I spent the afternoon trying on my holiday clothes from my pre-weight-gain days and, though most fit ok, even though I am only 2lbs or so off what I weighed then, I find my body shape has changed. My tummy and bottom look so much bigger now and it quite depressed me looking at myself in shorts and beachwear. I know advancing years don't help but it wasn't a pretty sight!! Perhaps this is the penalty for not exercising whilst dieting? Oh well, will try harder today! Have a good day all.

Hi all, would love to join you.

Am really needing to tackle my weight. Going thru a very stressful time. Really tough last 18 months which I have coped with by eating loads. Resulting in going up 2 dress sizes. Hopefully "reporting back" to you will help the old willpower!

    So, today
B muesli with ss milk, coffee
L hm butternut squash curry, fruit
D prob courgette & mushroom in pitta

Have a nice day all - good luck! X

Edit - ate above, minus pitta. But plus 2 slices wm toast with cheese spread AND cheese, and a choc digestive. Damn you evening grazing grr :(

    Morning all.

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday at which I was told my weight 'is no longer a concern', which made me feel rather chuffed with myself. :)

    Today goes:

B - bread roll with about 3 heaped tsp ginger jam (I didn't measure it but it looked about that much)
    S - apple
L - chicken and coleslaw sandwich; bottle of apple and plum juice; pack of mini oat cakes; fig, date and seed yoghurt (which I'm going to have to stock up on now - yum! (that's probably a bit of a large lunch, tbh, but it was very tasty :))
    S - two fresh figs
D - pasta al lago (with bacon, veg, scrambled egg and a small amount of cheese - it sounds revolting, I know, but it's honestly delicious! ;)); spiced stewed plums with crumbled meringue

Exercise - 40 minute or so walk at lunchtime - I need to order something from a shop and will be energetic and walk rather than phoning them.

mumnotplusone - welcome to the thread! :hello:
Back after a very long break!
