I'm thinking about having a veggie night once a week, will be difficult as fella thinks dinner with no meat is either a snack or a starter!

Same here, though I'm gradually working on him, I can now give him a veggie supper if he's had meat at breakfast or lunch (preferably both!)

    Hi folks,

Well last night I started with good intentions and ordered the veggie deli platter which was delicious and I only drank sparkling water but then it went wrong and I had flourless chocolate cake with ice cream :(:):(:) ha ha it was delicious so that can be my treat for the week

    B: 2 wholemeal toast

L: Probably a sandwich or salad out somewhere

D: Veggie haggis and steamed vegetables, yum!

    Have a good weekend all
  • Hi hope everyone is well,

Im not on a DIET more like a change of fuel intake from 4 star to super unleaded(its cheaper) and is coming about more from cutting back frugally than actively counting calories.

Brekkie today is porridge with 1% fat milk (its cheaper in the SM) and a spoon of jam from the xmas hamper
Lunch will be HM pasta chickpea and mint salad (will save some for 2morrow's lunch too)
Dinner Chicken breast & pasta in lemon juice.

snacks will be the HM rice crispies cake (how to make 3 squares of choc a little butter and treacle go a long way!) or oatcakes again from the xmas hamper, they not that nice tho.

I am finding i am snacking less when ive had to make them not because its not yummy but i think because i know the effort involved (and the washing up) it seems to be working anyhows.

So far since before xmas im down 7lbs :D

Try to go for a stir-fried dish rather than one laden with sauce, most chinese food is fairly low fat but takeaways tend to 'fat up' their dishes for the western market! Their soups are low fat and filling so you could have a soup followed by a few satay chicken sticks and rice or a chow mein. As long as you don't go OTT with the portions then you'll be fine, you;re allowed a treat. (there's no way my OH would 'share' a dish either!)
Thanks for the advice Ragz. As you'll see by my choices I'm not really a curry fan so I'll try the satay chicken sticks sometime. They sound nice but I would have avoided them because of the peanuts, thinking that they would be high calorie, the same goes for the stir fries thinking of the oil. I can see that I'll have to dig out one of my calorie counter books. (I tend to know the damage of most things that I eat regularly!) :T
BTW because of unforseen circumstances we didn't order a takeaway and I ended up with a packet of low cal crisps 105 cals! Must admit that I was disappointed although it was a better option!:(:rotfl:

    Hi all,

Eenymeeny - re the chinese, try the dishes that come with vegs like chicken with broccoli, mushrooms or sweetcorn, some places do mixed vegetables with chicken/lamb/beef etc instead of the traditional chop suey. Or go for fish / seafood dishes, prawns are low in calories so again if you can avoid the sauces it will be the low calorie option.

Eltee - good luck, hopefully the monitoring will be an incentive too.

I didn't have the best of weekends although did do a 4 mile walk on sunday so hopefully that will counter act some of the eating :o
I'm blaming TOTM and a cold, I feel rubbish today so can't be bothered with worrying about food.

Hopefully will feel better tomorrow and will get some incentive back....

Planned Banananananananana has turned into the l/f yog I didn't eat yesterday.
No dumplings is a lie because there is one
And I think the HM ccc&rice is going to turn into leftover roast gammon, spuds & veg.

apart from that, all going to plan!

did 20 mins walking this morning, going out lunchtime and planning to walk 20 mins after work this evening.

    mlz1413 - hope you're feeling better.

Thank you, I am better today. yesterday was carp I felt really awful, spent the day coughing, dozing, coughing, sleeping. But today the headache and sore joints are gone and I'm not sounding like a 60 a day smoker trying to give up! Although I have been told that I ought to take up smoking with a cough like this :rotfl:

    Today's plan is:
    B: 2 toast. l/f spread & jam
    S: banana
L: left over chilli from saturday with left over pots from last night
S: full fat yogurt (i have been ill ;))
    D: to be advised

OH went shopping last night so we have food in the house.
