Ooh welcome imataloss - I have at least 4 stone (well, 4 to start with) to lose, so we are both here for the long haul. Everyone is very supportive and you'll get good ideas and suggestions to help you. My DD is encouraging me to join the gym, but I have joined three gyms in the past and never went beyond month 2...... would this time be different? Could I make it different?

bfast veggie burger, egg, veggie bacon
Lunch - nut burger, new pots, tomoatoes, mustard dressing
Tea - veggie shepherds pie topped with sweet pot mash
    Snx - fresh melon slices
To those who are given much, much is expected

            Hi imataloss and welcome.

Would it be possible for you to get some exercise after you have taken DD to work before you start? Are you able to arrange your own hours as you're at home? Or maybe a fitness DVD or walk at lunch time?

Going to the gym twice a week and fitting in some other exercise at home when more convenient would be a good compromise.

Keep plenty of low fat snacks that you can nibble on through the day if you find that being at home tempts you to eat more. Sorry if you already do this or are quite disciplined about eating at meal times only. I just know it is easier to reach for the biscuits etc in your own house than at work, although no one else to tempt you at home like work collegues.

Definitely make time for yourself. 'Book in' exercise times on your calander HTH

Hi Imataloss, could you do a weeks planner of how your day / evening is spent and then try and use that to structure your day into you / family / work / meal /exercise times?

You say that your taking DD to work and DS to nursey - could DD get the bus or cycle to leave you more time?

I like to count calories it helps me ensure I stay under 2000 per day and hopefully less if the exercise is restricted. I have made myself a 'cheat sheet' with calories per 100g of chicken, mince, potatoes, beans, peas etc - basically the stuff you eat all the time.

Sam247 - could you join a gym for 3 months so that you have the incentive to make the most of the money spent, but then as your 2 month limit sets in you know 1 more month to go and you can have a break?

Well today I've managed to 'go large' without trying! As I tipped the cereal out there was so little left that I used it all, then the lady at the sandwich counter must have thought I needed feeding as the tuna was nearly an inch thick!

            So Today has been:
B: last of Cereal with banana milk (other milk still frozen)
L: tuna & cress sandwich with snack box of tropical fruits
            S: yogurt
            D: chicken - prob as a curry

Thank you all for your welcomes. I have had a much more productive day workwise and am feeling more positive than I did this morning.

sams247 - you may find it useful to get yourself a gym buddy. I usually take a couple of friends with me. You feel oblidged not to let them down.

mlz1413 - It`s easier for my daughter to get our grandson to nursery if I give them both a lift. Much quicker too :)
Calorie Counting is definately the way forward. I try to aim around 1700 a day if I don`t exercise. This should hopefully give me an average loss of 1 lb per week. Hopefully if it comes off slowly it will stay off.

Esther H - I can`t find time to go before work when taking DGS to nursery and DD to work but am thinking of making time to go at lunchtime/after work on those days.
Fitness DVD is a good idea and we have a Wii fit that has only been used a few times I really should make use of that. I used to go for a walk before lunch but have got out of the habit.

I am going to plan my evenings so that I do something useful. Could use it for exercise/sewing/knitting/crafts/reading instead of sitting in front of the TV. I used make time for all of these but have got out of the habit. Far too much time has been wasted watching TV recently. Think it`s because it became an outlet when we were coping with hospital visiting over the past two years. That`s also why I found it hard to eat as healthy as I should have.

            Food wise today as follows:

            B: Boiled Egg and toast
L: McDonalds - this is a rare thing. Went out at lunchtime with DD, DGS and met husband. Eek - over 1000 calories for 1 meal. Good thing I don`t go very often.
            D: Soup, chicken salad, icecream.
S: None - have been too busy
Takes my total cc for today to 2400 (will need to get plenty of exercise over the weekend to even this out).
            Have a good weekend :)

Hi Imataloss, If you could find time to exercise in the evening like you say, there is loads you can do at home. You can even get some extra little bits of exercise through out the day, like every so often, say when you go to the loo, run up and down the stairs a couple of times. Do some knee bends while waiting for the kettle to boil etc., Every little bit adds up.

Yesterday was not a good day food wise. Had an extra thick piece of toast in afternoon and because of unexpected circumstances, ended up with fish and chips for tea because no time to make any. So:

            B: loz mueslie
            S: Banana
L: Soup same as day before
            S: Toast
            D: Fish and chips
            S: Necterine, 2 plums, strawberries

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

          5. Hi procrastinator, did your doc talk to you about diet help / support? our local gym/swimming pool takes doctors referals free and a friend of mine got loads of help to lose weight last year, so might be worth asking.

            Hi
Usual doc away till Sept and this one didn't offer much more than lose weight and exercise as I said I didn't want to be offered drugs at this stage. Thought I would try very hard and go see doc again in Sept. I thought I read the free swimming etc had been stopped as money saving by the new government? I swim once a week usually, 50 lengths in just under an hour which I think is good. He wasn't impressed.

Hi folks, both returning, regular and newbies,

I have had a bad few weeks with 3 days on and 1 day off-type pattern with my eating so I have put on 2-3lb which isnt horrendous in the grand scheme of things but I need to get back on track 100%

B: 2 wholemeal toast with HM marmalade

L: Leftover spinach & ricotta canelonni

D: Veggie burger with HM wedges and beans (this is my comfort tea compromise to get me back into it, I can eat it as its tightly portion controlled but it feels really 'bad' ;)

I did 14 miles mountain biking at the weekend and have a mammoth blitz of the house planned as we have lots of visitors coming at the weekend so hopefully that will burn some calories :)

            Hello
            Hope everyone`s weekend was ok.
Foodwise just about stayed within my calorie allowance.
Exercise wise - went shopping yesterday and was walking/standing for 3.5 hours. I was surprised just how many calories I burnt just doing this.
Breakfast - porridge, sultanas and orange juice
            Lunch - soup or salad?
Dinner - not decided but have 1/2 cooked chicken left from yesterday. Any suggestions?

            Mornimg All,

I have to hang my head in shame for this weekend, I helped out behind the bar of my local on Saturday for 2 hours as they had a party and then I kept nibbling at the buffet - quiche, pork pie, sausages and egg mayo sandwiches. THEN also took a doggie bag home. This was all on top of my dinner :o.

Also had 7 to sunday dinner and my friend bought an enormous fruit-cream-merguine pie for after our enormous pork roast with everything. (I must have done my five a day in this meal!) rounded off with a cheese board.

So I'm really dreading this months weigh in at the end of the week, so next few days will be drastic measures.

B: glass of banana milk shake
            S: carrot
            L: ham salad sandwich
            S: yogurt
            D: jacket spud and coleslaw

Imataloss - cooked chicken makes good Jalfrezi if you enjoy curry, could be cold in a salad, fajitas or wedges and roasted mediterranean vegs.

procrastinator - I don't think the gym referals were the same budget as the free swimming, Sept is only days aways so why not book to see normal doctor and discuss your options? (PS I think 50 lenghts in any amount of time is brilliant!)
