    calculating a recipe

go to recipecal and sign up for free as a new user. I suggest you use your MSE username and then we can find each other.

name your recipe (ignore the other bits) BUT DO REMEMBER TO WRITE HOW MANY PORTIONS :) ie carrot cake = 32 portions

Enter the ingredients and amounts of each food in the recipe you are testing.

hit 'calculate this recipe', then 'calculate by portion', and post your findings here :)

  • Well reporting back on bean curry. Very nice is the verdict, but we felt it needed a bit more colour. I added some green beans to it. Very moreish and plenty left over, so DS thought he would have some on toasties tomorrow.

Also made a basic bun recipe, so they have gone down rather well too.

DS and DD give it an 8/10 with possibilities for a 10/10 if chick peas are used and more veg. Very filling though. :)

I wondered if you'd see if my directions above make sense, sometimes you are better at explaining things in a step-by-step way, where I'm a bit slap dash! :)

Hello! A couple of volunteers required for some calorie counting of some of the recipes, is anyone interested?

I think using the tool provided by recipecal would be the most helpful, I'll explain more when I've seen who's up for it :)

I think I'd aim to give each person no more than 3 recipes to calculate cos it takes about 10 mins each recipe so that'd seem a bit much ;):D

i can do some in the morning for you :) don't mind how many as i'll be pottering online anyway :)

I think I have got most of the recipes into the spreadsheet now, and I am trying to cross-match them with the menu plan so that I can see how many batches of each are needed.

As I understand it, here are the current recipes on the menu plan for which we have recipes, and the number of batches of each that I think we need, judging by the batch size and frequency of serving:
    carrot cake X2
    cauliflower cheese X3
green bean and beetroot salad X3
apple curd X1 ??? (not sure how many servings per batch)
baked bean curry X1 (need to know how much rice to serve with it)
    cereal bar X4
chana mutter masala + rice X2
    chick pea crumble X2
    corned beef hash X1
    Delia's Thick onion tart X2
    falafels X5
    onion bhajias X5
pizza X1 (but half of it isn't actually used in the menu plan)
    risi e bisi X1
    risotto pescatore X4
roast pork , stuffing, veg, roasties and gravy X2
turkey thigh, stuffing, veg, roasties and gravy X2
fish cakes with wedges and chutney X2 (assuming this is the pilchard recipe, but need to know quantity of potato wedges, oil, chutney etc to serve alongside)
    sweetcorn fritters X2
    weetabix loaf X3

And here are the items which appear on the menu plan but for which we don't have recipes or (where no recipe is needed) quantities of ingredients to be used:
    Beans (to eat on toast)
    cheese +tomato+bacon pasta
    chilli con carne
    cinnamon pancakes
fish pate sandwiches with HM mayo
hash browns & beans (to eat with toast)
    garlic bread
    houmous (for sandwiches)
    pea and ham soup
pork and apple burgers with HM wedges and veg
    porridge
    porridge with raisins
    sausage meatballs
    spicy pea and apple soup
    bread
    marmalade
    peanut butter
weetabix (to be eaten with toast)
Recipes still in progress and therefore not included in either list:
    garibaldi biscuits
chutney (currently uses half a large jar of cabbage, but now buying small jar)
I'll check the spreadsheet in the morning when my eyes have unsquinted themselves, then post some stock control figures.

    Thanks :)

How shall we make sure we don't double up?

I've calorie counted the porridge with raisins, delia tart, boodle biscuits, bread, HM potato wedges... what are others up for calculating?
