Feeling the cold hand of dread if I'm honest, with all the speculation and rumours, I swing between wild optimism and 'but what if?' My daughter then told me that one of her friends mothers said she would be going to the sorting office next friday night to get the letter. I wonder if you can - and would it be an altogether good idea?
Total debt £20,000 Northern Rock loan:eek:
    Debt free date April 2016!!!!
  • I am definately picking mine up first thing Saturday morning, just wrote the letter to sorting office today. Results were really late arriving so couldn't handle peering out the window every 5 mins again:eek:

Don't know anything about collecting on Friday night - does anyone know if this is possible?

Does anyone know if the letter comes from the school or from the Education board?? (or both?)
  • I think you get a letter from both. My friend said she remembers the 'Methody' frank on the envelope when her daughter got a place.

I'm picking mine up on Saturday morning. There is no way I could wait until the postman arrives. I honestly don't think there is anyway of getting them on Friday night.

The rumour machine really is at work now. I've heard that everyone who put Grosvenor as their first choice got in. Whether that is true I don't know. So does that mean they have people with 70 getting in or does it mean that they are higher scores?

The likes of the Dalriada principal saying that he would only have quintile 1 demonstrates the lack of understanding of the system from even the Principals. If they didn't understand then what hope was there for the rest of us? I think Grosvenor have been a victim of their own success in that people with scores under 100 maybe didn't apply as they thought they had no chance and hence applied elsewhere. This is certainly the case in my son's peer group.

    Time will tell.

Beware of picking up your post from office....last year my sister arranged to have her post held when her son was waiting on results. What happened was she appeared at sorting office at half 7 and guess what?...they didn't have it!! She then didn't know if the sorting office hadn't held it as agreed and post man had it with him or if it just hadn't arrived from education board. It was just awful and as he was very borderline with a C1 she was in hysterics!! She had to drive 10 miles home and wait for postman to come. Luckily, the sorting office had not held letter as promised and post man had it and most importantly he got into Larne grammar!! Her experience has however, put me off and I am just going to wait for post to arrive!

Just thought I would check this thread again........All good stuff.

I think even the so called "Low scores" will be good enough for most Grammars. Remember the old 11+ A grade was the top 35% of all P7 children eligable to sit the test, wheras the AQE was scored on only those who actually applied and sat the test.
I really hope everyone stuck to their 1st choice school no matter what their childs score was.
Roll on the 29th - With the amount of people on this thread I think we will be able to work out the cut-off scores for most grammars once places are allocated..........

    Wallace High
    A 81%
    B1 13%
    B2 1%
    C1 1%
    C2 -
    D 1%

Do you have Belfast High or BRA?

I think the rumour mill is perhaps swinging the other way now. When results first came out, there were so many rumours about schools not taking past first quintile etc. Now it seems the rumours have swung the other way and everyone who applied is getting in. My guess is it is somewhere in the middle. My own gut feeling is the correlation of scores to old 11+ grades by AQE was pessimistic. I was told that by two different grammar school heads in our area and that the reason AQE did this was so parents would not be disappointed in May if expectations were lower. My gut feeling is that the scores our children received actually are better than we think ie.correlate to higher 11+ grades than AQE quoted. Like I said this is just my own feeling but I have based this on information DIRECTLY given to me by several heads in our area as well as things I have read on here and been told by others.
