Wow I didn't think schools were allowed to use order of choice as a criteria!! Whats so good about the secondary school that its oversubscribed and can dictate that it will only accept applicants who place it as their first choice? If all the schools had that in their criteria the whole process would be in chaos0

The secondary schools are a completely different kettle of fish in all of this.0

Well said. The whole point behind age standardisation scoring is the basis that a younger child e.g June birthday is tested the same as a child almost a year older e.g July birthday - I know a lot will disagree with this but at that age a year older can make a really big difference.
The extra marks awarded for a June birthday are minimal anyway. Also if there was no age standardisation don't you think the younger children would have been pretty hard done by............0 -
I do have to agree, especially with boys who absolutely do on average mature later. I think it would be different if it was a large discrepancy but really we are only talking about a few points aren't we?0

Please read earlier threads it is the issue of how it was done and not whether it should be done.0 -
Well this one has and has annoyed alot of people and principals. It is well known for producing good results and the teachers do apparently push and help the children alot. It was made quite clear on the open night by the principal.
It has to be said well done for them for striving for excellence but it does seem a bit extreme that they won't accept a child unless they place the school as first choice. If all the schools did that the clearance system wouldn't work too well. That being said, it would be great if all schools were that dedicated!0 -
We do not have any information to say that the adjustment was minimal0

Yes, and?
I did post a link way back on an example of age standardisation - it is complicated we know that. But I am still allowed to deviate a tad, if it is ok wi
Sorry sent prematurely see subsequent posting. Was referring to my threads. Wanted to reassure that this is directed at AQE and questioning the norm reference not the principle of age adjustment.0
