hi, i havent put any secondary school down. has anyone else done this?? headmaster didnt seem to think it was neccessary0 -
I put one down but I have no intention of ever darkening its doors. If all our top choices fail there is always Campbell on the list which I doubt will be oversubscribed so a place should be available there to cut out the possibility of the secondary school. I could of course be very wrong in this.0

Yes, ex-spendaholic, that is exactly the kind of talk I don't want my daughter hearing. She did well as expected and if she gained anything it was because educationalists can see the difference a year can make to a child that age. Any of the teachers I have spoken to say age adjustment is just part of standardised testing but it normally isn't any more than 2-3 marks. Some of the parents on this site seem to be implying that their child with a score of 100 probably got the same raw score as a young child with a score of 120. That does sound a bit ridiculous but if rumours like that are circulated young children will become victims.0

Beccasmum, I totally agree.0 -
It is totally ridiculous Beccasmum. As far as I know in the old 11 plus the most a child gained by age standardisation was 1%. There is no way a child got 20 marks on top of their AQE score because of their age. I do think that there should be some allowance for the very young kids in their year though.0

We didn't put secondary down but our 4th/last choice is a grammar that over the years has accepted c1s and c2s.0 -

that made me laugh!! i agree to be honest. i never had any intention of putting the local secondary school down0 -
The irony of the situation is actually right in front of me now. My son has 2 friends round. I will point out at this stage that none of the kids are in the slightest bit worried about scores, schools etc. As far as they are concerned it is all done and dusted. Here is the scenario.
Son March birthday 104
Friend 1 July birthday 103
Friend 2 August birthday 103
All 3 were getting top scores in the practice papers and are very bright.
My son is applying to Grosvenor, Methody, Wellington. Friend 1 is applying to Wellington, Grosvenor, Campbell. Friend 2 is applying to Grosvenor, Wellington, Methody. So if my son and friend 2 get to Grosvenor all well and good they do not effect friend 1 in anyway. However if my son is rejected by both Grosvenor and Methody he then takes precedence over friend 1 in the Wellington list. If friend 1 is rejected from Wellington then he has no chance in Grosvenor either as they will have already rejected my son and friend 2 in the first applications.
It all seems really unfair.0 -

do you not have to pay in Campbell???0 -
Yes you do. Its £2098 per year or if you are in Q1 you get a discount of £1000 per year for years 8 and 9 or if in Q2 a discount of £500 per year for years 8 and 9. Its a small price to pay though in order to avoid some of the alternatives in my area. :eek:0
