Tinkerbelle, from what Josiejo has posted, it will all depend on if 99 is a B1 or not. That is were the problem lies. We are in a similiar situation.Aqe is telling us that score of 102 is low B1, principle of first choice grammar school told me over phone that they have done their own calculations and that 102 is a very strong B1/bordering on A. She was VERY firm about this. When I had the same discussion with another grammar school principle in our area (0ver phone) he did say that he also felt that AQE stats were pessimistic and that he understood they had done this so to err on the side of caution so that parents wouldn't be too disappointed.0 -
I don't really have strong opinion about age thing but I would assume its no different from any other year. My son was born in Feb. I'm just glad he's done as well as he has to be honest. I wouldn't have thought that it would affect mark by a huge amount and it does only seem fair to me that the scores should be slightly adjusted for a child who is nearly a whole year younger than another child. I can see both sides of argument.0

I AGREE WITH YOU ABSOLUTELY. Younger children have done alot better in these tests. My son was doing really well in practice papers. Anybody I know who has 120 and above have been May and June birthdays. Are children given age standardised scores throughout their whole school life if so older children I believe will suffer.0

Beccasmum, you are totally right. My son is end of March so not the youngest but I frequently have the mother of a July birthday kid boasting to me that her child's score was his raw score and that he wouldn't have had marks added like mine did. I honestly don't believe my child had anything added.0

In relation to age...my daughter will be 11 this month she scored 117. Like Becca's mum I would hate to think people thought she was undeserving of this score....she has done well and was predicted with an A and I am happy that she achieved... no matter what the people who think she may have been advantaged think...
the highest scores in our school of 124 - a girl on a November birthday and a boy on an April birthday. So not all the youngest or the oldest scoring highly!!
This further uncertainty and lack of understanding by the parents is turning 'fellow comrades' on this thread against each other - when the target should be AQE and seeking clarity around age standardisation and how this works. I would assume they followed the model that was used for 11 plus... but heh what do I know!! Bit of research over a glass of wine for me tonight.......0 -
Newtownabbey mum, don't think any of us really know answer to that. I would have thought as your child is in middle, if she did get any extra marks for age adjustment it wouldn't have been very many.0

Newtownabbey Mum as no-one knows what way the age standardisation worked (in fact AQE don't even seem to know) then it is impossible to say who did and who didn't gain/lose marks.0

I really don't think the whole age discussion thing is going to get us anywhere. I really feel that the children, regardless of age, earned the score that they got and I don't think that parents should detract from that.0
