  • Hi Sniffy, do you know of many in your school applying for Belfast High first? 112 is fantastic!! Principle of BRA told me that our mark of 102 would have no problem getting into BRA and that he expects first cut off to be around 98 0r 99. Not sure what he meant by first cut off though!! My son put down BRA as third choice just due to it being so far from where we live.
I don't know of anyone applying to belfast high nearly all putting down ballyclare high. There are few children putting down methody, antrim grammar and larne grammar. I do know of one girl from greenisland direction score of 109 who was considering belfast high and carrick but I don't know what order of choice. I do know our primary principal had spoken to grammar schools and that 101 and above was considered a very good score. My worry is all the other criteria if there are alot of children applying with higher scores. My son is 1st and only child so we have no connections to bra.
  • I would be absolutely certain your child will get into BRA with a score of 112 even without connections. They are taking in strict rank order and the other criteria will only apply if there is a tie for the last place. The principle told me that he would be certain that we would have no problem getting our son in with 102 so your child will be nowhere near the last place. I wouldn't give it another thought. If I was in a position that you're in with first choice school I would be celebrating :j

re posts on different standards b/w AQE and GL... my daughter did both, got 106 in AQE and A grade in GL

GL provided a raw score for english and maths, an age standardised score and an overall score as well as the percentile ranking

can't remember the exact details as don't have the result sheet with me at mo, but her GL score was 235, the bands for each grade were provided so we know for instance that A grade was 235+

we worked out her maths score was circa 91%, at the time she said it was easier than the AQE maths

i think but could be wrong that her percentile ranking, which was given as 'for all the kids in her age grouping' was around 55, she is an autumn birthday

from my understanding most GL schools are taking the grade not the score or centile, though maybe those who are oversubscribed will adopt the centile?
  • Thats strange as Belfast Mum posted earlier that her childs aqe score was 106 and she was percentile rank of 60.

my memory could be wrong... but also percentile is age dependent and so maybe her kid is younger?

also just to clarify the percentile rank was for the GL grade A/ 235 score not the AQE one of 106
  • Wow its just all so confusing!!!!
  • absolutely hilarious you ringing to get score like something i would do you eejit ps if son has same personality will do great wherever he goes

:rotfl:thanks, i don't really try to be stupid, it just comes naturally :rotfl:I'm sure principle of Victoria is wondering why I put down phone and why she couldn't find my 'daughter' on her list. Should of just come clean when I realised made up name wasn't on her list. Who was to know they needed a name? I thought it was a simple task of me telling her the score and her checking her list/chart and giving me the percentile? Son would be mortified if he knew :D
