I don't think -from all the reading I've been doing on this subject, which is slowly taking over my life  - that we can equate 'old' 11+ grades to the aqe. Old system had science included therefore easier for kids to get higher grades. This therefore means that there are fewer kids in top band of scores, with majority around the 100 mark - this makes sense when you look at good old standard deviation. Hopefully this means that grammer schools will, unless very high marks in area, have to take children from majority of aqe 'bands'. As aqe test was harder than GL perhaps 100 is the new 'A'?0

Sullivan have taken A's and very few B1's. At least in previous year when you got an A you didn't know the score but now top scores in centile 2 are A's - but will the grammar schools recognise this?
I don't know if this will make sense, but it won't matter if they recognise it as the bands are just for illustrative purposes to give a rough guide. They will just go down the list in order. What the bands tell us is roughly what mark is an A, B1 etc so you can try to get an idea if your child has a chance but I don't think the grammar schools will be looking at it as in 'we will only take from 1st band etc..' they will just keep going down bands until they run out of places. I would say (just me guessing) that if they accepted a few B1s that marks could go down to possibly 103, 102 but just my opinion0 -
Hi there, everyone, have found this thread to be very informative and also reassuring. My child got 114, anyone know what lisburn grammars are likely to take?0

Welcome Karenha, Poppyanne and Lisburn Mum
Poppyanne, which area is this where they are in competition for bums on seats?
Karenha, I would imagine that Sullivan will get very high scores applying. I know of 2 kids with it as 2nd choice and their scores are 126 and 118. I never put it on our form as I thought if the mark wasn't high enough for Grosvenor then it certainly wouldn't be high enough for Sullivan.
Lisburn Mum, no idea of what the situation is in Lisburn. What have you got out there - Wallace, Friends - any others?0 -
nope but I wouldn't worry about it with that mark. I can't imagine your child will be turned away from anywhere!! Congrats to him/her0

hmmm...well maybe I'm wrong about Sullivan then. I don't know the school at all but was just going on what was said about them accepting a few B1s. If they accept a few B1s then I would have thought 110 would have no problem.0 -

I'm so confused about all this math stuff. Don't we already know how many are in the bands?0 -
Thank you, we were very happy with her mark but like so many, many others aren't exactly sure what it means and as there are really only two grammars in lisburn, Wallace and Friends, and these are usually well over subscribed, we are still a bit concerned.l0

Oh where oh where did Poppyanne go? I wanted to know where they need bums on seats?0

Do you think more people are applying for schools outside of their immediate area than ever before? Or a I being naive on this?
For example if my child had done the old 11 plus and got an A I would have applied for Grosvenor and put Wellington as a 2nd choice. I'd have been fairly confident he would have walked into Grosvenor. I wouldn't have been dreaming up a big list of schools.
Whereas here I am now with Methody as 2nd choice. Again had this been the old system, I wouldn't have even considered it as its not in my immediate area.0
