Ex-Spendaholic lol - I'm the Mum not the Dad, sorry to confuse you with my name, my husband calls me Stanley as in 'that's another fine mess you got me into', you know Laurel and Hardy!!
Thanks for the kind words, getting used to the fact I've been denied buying the wool blazer!!! I've heard the girls don't wear their blazers but carry them on one finger in front of them like a coat hook!!!
Didn't get a welcome pack from the school but checked uniform list online, unlike Friends where you have to buy 2 rugby shirts we get to buy a reversible one!!!
My son's friend with the same score got into the high school as well, so even if they didn't use his remark score in the admissions process it wouldn't have mattered! So don't think I need to try out the appeals process for us!!0 -
Congratulations to the all the kids who done the test, and also a big CONGRATULATIONS to parents who put themselves through the longest nightmare ever. Congratulations and thanks for all your support and help..It was good to not go through it alone.....Thanks:EasterBun0 -
:rotfl::rotfl: Sorry Stanjnr.
Just goes to show that you should never assume anything.
Dromore High is an excellent school. My friend's son has got in there. They chose for him not to sit the AQE test as they were more than happy for him to go to Dromore High. As a result they didn't have the months of madness that we have all had. There really are good Secondary Schools in NI, they just aren't based near me hence the panic for a Grammar. Ruane would be better to concentrate her efforts in improving the less satisfactory secondary schools rather than trying to ruin grammars.0 -

That is exactly what I have been saying. I totally agree with you.0 -
Funny how now that the sky hasn't fallen in on most of your worlds as predicted in February, the anger and willingness to appeal all decisions has disappeared. Not much support for mumof3 who wanted to appeal her decision. The "fight her on the beaches" and we will all see her in court has morphed into " appeal if you can be bothered". A clear case of pull the laddder up Jack! Is it because the end result was what you wanted that you really don't care about the mess that we were all in when this forum started?
I assume that this view will be as unwelcome as my original views, (yes, i do have a child going through the process, who got 1st choice thanks) but don't waste your time replying, I only checked in to see if the forum was still going. As I said in February, i'm going to enjoy spending time with my children and family. Good Luck to all the children in September (most of you are going to need it with parents like the ones on here!)
WOW!!!! Somebody's bitter!!! Relax, maybe you need to 'relax' a bit!! Why so bitter? I suspect your child didn't get his/her first choice at all and perhaps not 2nd or third and you have decided to take it out on us who are busy rejoicing our children's sucess!! Out of all the children of parents on this forum, it is your child that I suspect needs the most luck with a parent who obviously has no manners or respect for other people!! I have looked back at all your posts. You have posted on this thread 8 times and every single one of them has been negative!!! Gosh, your child must be filled with happiness and joy living with someone so positive. He/she is sooo lucky lol!!!There always seems to be one like you on these forums!! Lucky for us you only posted a few times to grace us with your lovely words of encouragement!! I feel terribly sorry for your child having to grow up with a parent who most obviously has a huge chip on their shoulder!!0 -

"Only checked in to see if the forum was still going" I bet you've been following this like everyone else and I bet you're still reading this to see who bites.:D:cool:
Yes I think you hit the nail on the head. Relax, you need to seriously get a life!! :rotfl:0 -
Well today we went out and purchased nearly all of the items on the BHS list apart from the uniform. Got son the recommended dictionary, bible, atlas, geometry set, ruler, scientific calculator, various specific pencils required for design, art and physics...all very specific!! Also got him Nike trainers for PE and PE socks. Tomorrow, if Gordon's is open, we are going to venture down to purchase the uniform. I know it is early but my usual pattern is to leave it til the last minute and then I'm always in a panic. Can't wait to see uniform on him. It is the day we have been dreaming of for so long!!! Now, I need advice re school bag. What bag are all of you thinking of purchasing? At the moment, son uses big navy backpack I got out of Woodsides. There is nothing wrong with it but he could use a new one. I just know that he will get to school in sept and they will all be carrying some sort of trendy brand name bag and then I will inevitably end up having to purchase one. Also, what overcoat do you all plan on buying? Son currently wears his superdry windcheater to school but as you will all know, they are quite neat fitting and there is no way that its going to fit over the blazer. The uniform list just says any black or navy overcoat. There are navy winderbreaker/waterproof type ones in Gordon's that have the school name on but not sure how 'cool' this will be considered. Sales assistant at Gordons said they really need an overcoat as when the rain hits the wool blazers they shrink around 2 inches in sleeve length :eek:. A serious plus point here for the polyester Larne Grammar blazers lol!! Just wondered what the rest of you think. Next up....shoes...where will you be purchasing and what kind will you be getting ie.lace up, velcro, or slip on. I always buy out of clarkes but again, not sure how 'cool' these shoes will be considered. Somebody mentioned to me kickers shoes but I don't know how smart these will look. Clarkes have some dressier looking ones that are a slip on kind. I really need advice about these issues from all you lovely kind people on here.0

Whoa!!!! Please - have a glass of wine and chill.I am breathless even reading your post!!!! He is in - it's OK.:)0 -
Actually, totally chilled for the first time in weeks
. Had a lovely day with the family getting bits a pieces and just basking in the joy that it is all over! Just wanting to be organised for a change as I have a pretty demanding job and will get very little time off this summer. Also, son very excited about getting uniform and he begged us to go out today to get the bits and pieces that we were able to get. So any advice about coat, bag and shoes?
