How Many Miles Do You Travel to Work?
Comments

4 miles at the moment, but most of the jobs I'm applying for will involve a 100 mile round commute, if I get it.
I'm currently on a temp contract, so I don't have much choice. Thank heaven for a supportive DH and kids.

The cost of petrol is a big drawback though, approx £50 per week. I'm hoping to work from home full time in the near future, fingers crossed.
I travel to the front bedroom to work - as work from home, but its not all its made out to be. yeah, you can start for 10 minutes after getting out of bed (and be showered and dressed), but for a social person like me I find it very isolating
but it does take the stress out of the household chores (the washing is always out on a nice day on our house) and no more holidays taken waiting on deliveries that never arrive !!
I have travelled as far as 120 mile round trip for work in the past, and prefer home working to this, but give me office gossip and a nice afternoon brew and a chelsea bun anyday :rotfl:light bulb moment: 30.08.08!!0 -

Thanks for the insight Simone. I'm expecting to find it somewhat isolating. I enjoy working in the office and I know I'll miss all my colleagues/the laughs/the gossip etc. I still think the benefits of working from home will outweigh the disadvantages though and I'll be going to the office approx once a fortnight so I won't be completely isolated.0 -
I work 2.2 miles away. I usually cycle it. Sometimes run it. If the weather's really bad and/or I'm knackered, I'll drive. Fortunately, I start and finish work outside of the usual 'rat-race' hours, so it's a nice and easy commute.
However, I've recently applied for a job that is 20 miles away, incorporating M'way. I think it'll be a shock to the system if it happens.0 -

If I wake up with no work commitments, and feel a bit lazy, my commute is about 15 metres, from my bedroom to my study.
The trip is a minefield. I pass childrens bedrooms who might ask me to
a) help with their homework,
b) find them a pair of socks,
c) ask for pocket money
d) ask for dinner money
e) tell me they feel sick
f) ask me to find a fresh towel
g) ask me to intervene in a brotherly freud over who picked up the remote first
I try and creep very slowly and not walk on the creaky floorboard. My study has a coffee maker in it and small selection of breakfast type materials. I try and hide in here until they have all gone to school (faking important phone calls if needed) before busting out and enjoying the silence.
Hot shower, followed by scrambled eggs on toast. Then a few calls to check in, followed by a bit of a internet browse. I try the kids wii to see what all the fuss about then might have a swim.
Lunch is usually a quiet affair, perhaps some soup and roll, and I'll check emails and the "bat" phone (my PA). (Love her really).
Just before school kicks out I retreat to the study and put up my "DND" sign, the next interuption should be the call for my tea.
Being the boss and working from own rocks!
If I am required at work (I own and run my own company) I can travel 28 miles to local office, or 389 miles to my other office.
