How Many Miles Do You Travel to Work?
Comments
-
I was doing 30 miles each way but most of it was in horrible traffic which meant it could take anything up to an hour and a half each way. I've only been doing it a couple of months but it's absolutely worn me out so I'm leaving at the end of this month.0

Less than half a mile for me

Before I moved closer to work, my round trip used to be 28 miles, half of which were through country lanes. I moved closer to work for many reasons but to cut out my commute (I walk now most days) was one of them.
I finish at 4.30, and if I've driven in I am home with a cuppa by 4.35
or 4.50 if I walk.
I am soon to be working from another office for next 3months but the commute time of half hour is part of my daily working hours so that's not too bad.

I think the travelling time is more important than the distance.
I used to work 17 miles from home and it took me 1.5 hours each way (around the North Circular Road). My husband worked 20 miles away but it took him less than 20 minutes (M1 going against the traffic)0 -
60 miles each way. 2 hours door to door (drive, train, walk).
Not unusual in the SE for those who commute to the CityWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

7 miles to my (usual) place of work, but thats across country - you couldn't walk (no pavements or lighting) or bus (no buses) that route would be longer if I went the main roads.
My DH is about 20-25 ish.
Both those are each way.0 -
10 miles each way, which takes about 15-20 mins each way, through good roads and usually light traffic.
I don't think 25 miles is excessive, but as others say, travel time must be taken into account...as well as mode of transport.
I'd travel 25 miles on a high speed train, no problem. I'm not sure how willing I'd be to drive that distance during rush hour on a busy motorway. I used to have to travel that kind of distance to university. It was so hit and miss. Motorway traffic fluctuations meant it'd take anything between 25-90 mins.
Money is also a factor for me. If I'd been out of work for a year, I'd take "anything", provisionally. But if the salary isn't particularly good, and your travel costs are too high, it could be worth seeking a more local job once you've got your foot back on the employment ladder, even if the pay is less.£1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50/£600

"3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600 :eek:0 -
Three and a half miles each way. Sometimes drive, sometimes walk, sometimes walk and bus. Driving less than ten minutes, walking an hour, mixed walk/bus forty five minutes.0

Google says a third of a mile (:D) but I specifically chose a job there because it was so close. Takes me about five minutes if I walk.:A:A:A:A:A:A0

35 miles each way, takes 45 mins on dul carraigeway. My OH is 25 miles each way. As you can imagine petrol is our biggest cost at the mo!0

I live only 6 miles from work in rural Dorset. There are no buses so I have to drive. A 12 mile round trip each day. I can be home within 15 minutes if I don't get stuck behind a tractor or a herd of cows!
My partner works 25 miles away which takes him around 45 minutes on a good day, he's looking for something closer to homeThey have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson
