Also bear in mind that if they have had to weld large areas of the car to make it structurally sound then there is almost certainly other cosmetic rust that will de-value the vehicle. I think the valuation given is extremely fair and you may be able to negotiate the price upwards slightly i dont think your going to get much more for the vehicle.

The other option is to accept their offer but purchase the vehicle back from the insurer then if the garage do bodywork repairs as well as mechanical you could buy the replacement panels and they do you a good deal on fitting them. a new bumper section is approx £30 and a whole quarter panel is about £90. That way you would have the car still along with a fair wedge of cash.
I was going to suggest this as well. Say to the insurance company, ok give me some money and the car back. Then say to garage, how much will you charge to fix the car, considering you broke it? Actually ring round a few garages and get quotes.
But if it were me I'd take the £1050 and buy myself a better car than an S reg KA, and probably be quite happy that I got to get a new car. :D
  • "Why on earth were they road testing it when the only MOT failure was rust??"

It depends on what they had to remove to weld it, if they had had parts of the interior out for example then I would expect them to road test it to make sure it didn't squeak or rattle.

It would be useful to know how far from the garage the accident was.
I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling ;)

And the value of your car without an MOT was probably about £100. So heres an idea get your £370 back and tell the insurance company the car is no longer MOT'd and requires structural repairs hence you wont be taking a payout of more than £100.:rotfl:
