OS Daily Thread - Thursday 4th February 2010

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 4th February. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS lovelies
Lowesy - Still thinking of you both.
Taplady -
and good wishes coming your way. So sorry to hear about your aunt.
nmlc - Oh I love bakewell tart, can you send me a slice please? And like you, I adore baking and cooking, it's so good for the soul.
jc - Have a great time in Newcastle with your family!
SunnyGirl -
Thank you.
pipkin - How is the voice today hon? Sending love and thoughts and hoping you find clarity around the decisions you have to make.
Sunnyday - Sometimes we just indulge and have bacon sandwiches instead of using it in a pasta bake or something.. it's good to spoil oneself occasionally and to hell with finances or diets...
anguk - I am glad to hear there has been some improvement with your husband and hope it continues. Sending supportive vibes for you all.
Rachel - glad your OHs mum is home and doing well.
Meanmarie - I have Delias Frugal Food. It's not one of my most used books but there are plenty of good recipes in there and it's a good read. I picked mine up for about £7 on Amazon and think it was worth it. And good luck with the teaching, I am sure it will go swimmingly..
Snoozer - I do hope your mum is Ok hon, and that it all goes well at the clinic for you.
Beemuzed - Glad you are feeling better hon
for the welcome backs. Life took an unexpected and painful turn but now I have gained some equilibrium I am happy to be back posting and I missed reading all your news every day.
OH managed to pick up some bacon bits from the butchers today 600g for £1.99 and BOGOF so we have plenty of bacon now for sandwiches AND cooking with! The food inventory on the 'puter is invaluable, I just love updating it and it really helps with meal planning.
Breakfast will be bran flakes and sultanas again (my favourite right now!), lunch will be hummus on crackers with tomatoes and cucumber and dinner is home made beef casserole stuffed full of veg, with mashed potato and brocolli.
I hope everyones day is as good as it can be for them, and that anyone feeling poorly feels better soon. With love, light and
for all.

Thought I may as well have a browse on here seems as I was up:o.
Toyed with the idea of doing my ironing but it is too cold.
Snowed heavily here last night and some of it is still lying although it is raining now so will hopefully get rid of it;)
Will do it later.
I have to do a freezer inventory today or tomorrow and next sainsburys online shop.
am still so tired my brain can`t think...will be back later0 -
4th already where does the time go....
Work today after bins, P-lunches, Iron shirt etc
1 week left on Sky full package. I bought the hole lot half price for 3 months as i wanted to see the NFL and Christmas movies. But after 2 months I am bored of it. The movie channel is rubbish and the sports are pathetic too. I shall save some money for sure....
Ordered oil yesterday 42p liter, another rip-off. Boiler juice may yet bring it down in price...
Have a good day, hope something good happens for everyoneNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Off to work soon, I think I'm going to run out of paper about lunchtime, could be fun trying to do my job without any! I placed an order last Tuesday & it's on next day delivery, phoned the suppliers, no order received as yet, seems it's stuck in the finance office, hey ho, I'll put me feet up & have a read until they get it sorted.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all
Dark, damp and foggy here this morning, but thankfully no snow! OH had another early start but I did wake before he left and so got up at stupid early o'clock, may well regret it later in the day! Had our fav smoked sausage and creme fraiche pasta for dinner last night, tonights dinner is being jiggled about as I'm going out tomorrow night with a friend to a candle party - not very OS but do me good to go out without all the family in tow etc!! Tonights dinner will be HM lasagne with chips/salad, tomorrow's will be fish, potato bake, veg/baked beans.
Will be heading for the scales first thing - not particularly looking forward to it today as had chips at the weekend both days!! but have been very good since so hopefully can swing a stay the same - this week has been more about "damage limitation" than actually trying to lose any weight, but if I could lose then that would be great!! I need to lose 2lb for a total of 3 stone weight loss and when you want that 2lb loss it's always really difficult!! Have become very focused again now though which is good, I did wonder after Xmas, New Year and my birthday whether I would be able to get back into it, but have done so quite well, I just want the job done though, am thinking I would like to be somewhere near my target by this April so must keep going!!
Have a busy day planned, after the scales, need to go to collect a ring and reserve item from Argos in the next town, and go to the Post Office, then home for housework for the whole house, washing, drying and ironing, change the beds and wash the bedding. Sweep and scrub the kitchen floor and clean out the fridge ready for shopping tomorrow, do a menu plan for next week including the weekend so we don't fall into the trap of "nothing in for Saturday tea". Would be nice to get jobs done so when OH working Sat morning will be able to have a lie in and easy day!! Oh, nearly forgot also need to do baking/cooking at some point for pack-ups etc for next week, may make a crumble for dessert at the weekend.
Think that's enough to keep me busy. Need to go now as need to get a shower and organise the breakfast and pack-ups etc, have a good day everyone.
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

No snow here thankfully though it was forcast yesterday.
Today am in the office first thing then going to attempt to clean DS' bedroom - that will be fun not. Also will get the bathrooms done....stardrops at the ready.
PC man has my new laptop and is transferring stuff over from my old one. Will probably have a play when I get it back firstly and see what Windows 7 is all about.
Am feeling very tired at the moment, seem to be in a deep sleep when the alarm goes off so going to make another cuppa and hope it wakes me up.
Have a good day all - Hester enjoy your afternoon - it really is madness where you work! lol.

Good morning

I am in shock this morning as all four of the children have been up since 6am :eek::eek: VERY unusual. I'll make them all beans on toast for breakfast shortly.
Going to my Mum's at 10am to do her cleaning & ironing as she had her gall bladder removed last Friday morning and is still sore. Dad isn't being much use
and she's been trying to do too much.
Hester It does sound like madness at your place of work - don't know how you cope :A
Diva Lurve the new smilie it's very apt
Hugs all round where needed & have a good day.0 -
Morning all,
No snow here, I think we have had our lot for the winter, we are too far south and don't get it often.
Off to work again today, last night I made a chicken fried rice with left over chook from sunday, and brocoli corgette peas onion and garlic, it was delish, I have some left over which I might take for lunch today, I cooked the chicken on sunday I hope it will be ok today.
On the subject of leggins, I have not worn them for years, I assumed I was too old, I must admit, I would like to try them again, but think my legs might be too 'lumpy' now, my dd wears them all the time, but she is 15 with legs to die for
.
I did a wash last night and put it on the airer, should be almost dry, will leave it till I get home from work and put it away, and replace it with a new lot. DW went on and was empteid last night.
Dinner tonigh will be something with chips, will go and rummage in the freezer in a while, and I have a sainsbugs delivery coming tonight too.
Ok thats it from me, have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
Sorry not to have posted yesterday, it was DD's 16th birthday, and a bit of a busy day workwise so any spare few minutes were spent as family time and we went out and to a nice oriental buffet restaurant last night , it was lovely that DH got home early from work so we could make the most of the 'leave before 7.30. and pay less!' price , so I guess a little OS ....! (hey who am I kidding!)
DD was really pleased with all her pressies, its always difficult financially having a birthday quite near to christmas but we managed to do quite well again for her this year. Got a busy day today, quite a lot of MS jobs to do as well as my regular part time job and dog walking, etc.
On to my getting to know you catch up ... ! :
Candygirl - thanks for your kind words about my long post ... ! Sadly my friend had to cancel so I didnt go round there , am meeting her for lunch tomorrow with another friend though so hopefully nothing will mess up those plans!
purpleivy - ouch re the sewing machine injury , hope its not too sure and yay about your new Magimix , bet it will get used loads.
RAchelW1987 - sorry to hear about your MIL (and friend in NZ too), hope MIL is much better soon and what a relief about no long lasting effects, glad to read she is home now.
Topsyturply - glad DS seems to have settled back in to school OK. Sorry to hear about your frustrating day at work.
redruby - oh no about the dog drying herself off on DD's bed.... just the sort of thing my two would do ... !
csarina - glad you are in your new home, good luck with all the unpacking. Sounds like you have lots to do, glad you got some hot water in the end !
npm - oh no about the missing paperwork, thats handy that you can use your ex's and do it next month tho - phew ! I spent an hour looking for my car keys , literally about an hour, and then within two minutes of giving up I found them , I so wished I had given up looking sooner !
Hi MSD - hope all is OK with you now and that things improve for Tris and Michelle soon. Havnt been to Sainsburys for a while but that 3 meat for £10 deal sounds great so may have to venture there over the next few days.
mioliere - I really hope you enjoy your second christmas with your family, how lovely, and it will be great to meet your latest DGD too ! Have a safe journey. The soup sounded yummy.
Sunnygirl - oh dear about the morning scarecrow look ! How lovely to teach your friend how to crochet.
nmlc - we really need to get into having some different meals as well , must try and include at least one new meal a week, maybe I should join the challenge on the boards here. All your baking sounds soooooo yummy, I am really hoping to have some time at the weekend to do some baking although Saturday is looking fairly busy with MS work....
jc2703 - good luck with getting your MS work done , have got 5 to do today , 4 tomorrow and 4 on Saturday. I know I take on too much sometimes but all the money helps ! Dominos pizza - yummy... ! Actually one of my MS jobs (Friday) is Dominos delivery so that wont be a difficult one to do ! Hope you are enjoying your time at your parents.
Pipkin71 - glad theres an improvement and that you are feeling better. I assume that reading your posts you homeschool your DD's ?? Hoping you can sort out about your decisions after your hospital visit....
flutterby - hope your selection day went OK and that you found some gooduns!
Bitsy - the gammon sounded delicious, hope you managed to stop picking at it !
Sunnyday - silly question probably but what sort of things do you cook for your dogs in the slow cooker ? I like to treat mine to home cooked food sometimes for a change so would welcome any ideas please . WD for getting the freezer inventory done.
mummysaver - oh my goodness your DD is brave for wanting to play netball with her bad finger!
beemuzed - sorry to hear youve been poorly.
bargainbird - hope your enjoy your new car !
snoozer - sending hugs your way , ever so sorry to hear about your mum and really hope the investigations for you turn out OK, thinking of you. x
lisa26 - hope the car really is OK this time, how annoying when, as you say, all these sort of things are supposed to be checked. Wow you got some bargains with the shoes and food , M & S reductions are just too good to miss arent they ! I got 3 HUGE , really HUGE chickens a while back for £3 each, they lasted us ages and ages. How fab to have won a Wii and well done on the workout !
AngUK - I am so pleased to hear about the slight improvement with your DH , really hoping that each day brings a little more positive news for you.
Hester - oooo that luxury fruit and nut flapjack sounds delicious.
taplady - so sorry hear about your auntie..... x Ahhh you DH sounds fab !
meanmarie - good luck with the 18 year olds.
Right best get on now and get properly ready for the day , take care everyone. x0 -
Morning everyone.
Shattered today. Was up drinking tea with H at 3am. Ended up leaving DD to cry as she woke again and wouldn't go back off to sleep. How DS didn't wake with the racket I'll never knjow. She eventually went off but we were overtired so had a brew after which DS woke. Anyway taking them off to soft play centre this morning and hopefully this afternoon I'll have a rest.
I think we'll have a makeshift for tea. I haven't started the ironing at all this week
and if I don't do some tonight by the weekend there will be a mountain range :rotfl: If I don't cook then I can make a start on it once DD has gone to bed.
aplaceinthesun - at all your replies! and yes the gammon was lovely and I didn't pick at it all day. Am having the leftovers as I type with some reheated mash - just don't fancy toast this morning.
taplady - sorry to hear about your aunt xx
nmlc - hope the scales show the 2lb loss
Right need a coffee. Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
