My monthly BB is going to go up by 50p, but I don't want to tie into another contract (I've had my service for about 16 months now) so I guess I'm just going to swallow it.... all just to retain the right to cancel whenever.

    Ring them!!

I have got 50p off my monthly charge until my contract ends, so i don't HAVE to renew. If u ummm and arrrrr for long enough on the phone, they'll eventually give you a non-contractual discount from now until your contract ends.
  • Good news guys, I rang virgin medea before and I have been given a date for disconnection :T

thanks to all that gave me there time
  • Hi all,

1st post... dont normally post but thought it may help is i am well pi**ed with virgin.
Called them to cancel due to increase they said it was in line with inflation... i advised them that inflation has not expanded in line with their inflation to which they replied it is an anticipated inflation rate ect ect and that i could not cancel due to this. i refered to the j5 t and c and after 10 mins on hold he apologied and said i was free to canel he made a note on system and asked me to write to them stating acc no and asking for acknolwegment from them to say they recieved. maybe they should know their own ts and cs before speaking.

Thanks to prevoius posters for the info.
Next question is what do i do now for my i net phone and tv??? :D:D

Probably be forced to sign up for something either a) more expensive or b) not as good or c) both, due to your principles?

  • on phone with virgin right now, my tv xl & phone line are going up but BB isn't,

according to the gentlemen i've just spoken to you can only cancel the services affected as per section J5 -

    If:
    1. Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments increase their respective charges under these agreements ;
    2. Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment make significant changes to the services so the services you are entitled to receive in return for the charges you pay are significantly altered or reduced; or
    3. Virgin Media Ltd, Virgin Media Entertainment and/or Virgin Media Payments make significant changes to the terms and conditions of these agreements (including the other legal stuff ),
you may cancel those services affected without penalty by giving Virgin Media Ltd and/or Virgin Media Entertainment (as applicable) at least 30 days' notice in writing. If you cancel any services in these circumstances,

    anyone ben told this also?
If your lucky enough to be irish, your lucky enough ;)

That is correct. You can only cancel the services that are affected by the price increase. Obviously, if you are out of contract, you can cancel anything by giving the usual notice period.
  • We had a package with them (out of contract) which was going to go up £2.50 a month. I checked their new customer rates online and saw one with better broadband but a lower tv package for over £10 less a month than I currently pay. We asked for the new customer rates and were given them without arguement (for once). I'd rather pay £10 less a month for better broadband and a few less tv channels we rarely watch.
  • Hi guys, not sure if I will be able to do this but..

I have VM small TV, L phone and XXL BB (50mb)
Their 50mb service has been terrible the past two months, had countless calls to CS. So i'm looking for a way out.

The line rental is going up by £0.99, will I only be able to cancel the phone?

Ideally, I would like to cancel the lot but, not sure if it's possible.

Yes, only the phone if you are currently in a contract.
