If you do a SAR, you will get all of your personal information, including credit card statements and bank statements. You then have to find any charges you are attempting to claim back.Best Regards

HELP!!!!
What was the basis of your original claim? If you had originally claimed financial hardship, your claim should not have been stayed.
If you are now suffering genuine financial hardship (but weren't previously), follow the MSE guide and you may get some of the recent charges refunded.
However, there is no guarantee as the only obligation on the banks to to adopt a posutive and sympathetic approach to those in financial hardship."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Hi - new to this so sorry if this query is in the wrong place. I started trying to reclaim bank charges over a year ago and then let it drift for a while but now am struggling with debts etc so wanted to have another go at following this through. I rang the FOS to check whether it was worth pursueing since the latest court movements and was told that there was no point in trying as the ruling meant that banks don't have to pay out anymore? And - just recalled that my last attempt ended when I wrote to the Halifax explaining my financial difficulties and chasing settlement - that was over 6 months ago and i've had no response. ANy suggestions?:(0

See your thread you created asking the same for responses:

Hi,
I tried to reclaim my bank charges a number of yrs ago, it was just around the time when the banks went to court so my claim was put on hold until the outcome was heard. Directly following the court ruling the bank contacted me to inform me this had been the case and that i could not claim and this was closed. Can i now go back to re-open that case under hardship? If so there doesn't seem to be any letters that seem appropriate for this type of case, can you help please? Thanks0 -

Follow the advice given in the latest MSE guide to reclaiming bank charges.
Could I ask why you didn't claim financial hardship at the time? If you had, your claim should not have been put on hold.
If you were not in financial hardship at the time, you can't re-open that old claim ... but you could start a new claim now based on the financial hardship you now find yourself in.
Whilst each claim is assessed individually, the best result people seem to currently get is the last 6 months charges refunded (but some get nothing as there is no obligation on the banks to refund anything even to those customers in financial hardship. The only obligation is that the claim is handled with a positive and sympathetic approach)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Hello
I hope this makes sense. I am having a terrible time with NATWEST. Have been a customer for years but last few years have been difficulty financially and I now recognise I need to set up DMP and am in middle of doing so.
I have applied for Basic Bank ACcount elsewhere. I am hoping to arrange to get my salary paid into my partners account this month.
If I am clearly not going to be paying my salary into NATWEST are they still likely to look at my claim for charges under hardship? It has got to the point where the charges from them are pushing me outside my overdraft limit each month. I have been liaising with them about my situation but not had personal response. Just standard letters about charges.
Any advice about where I stand asking for charges back if I am not using the account welcome.0 -

Don't liaise any more. Write to them setting out your claim following the advice given in the MSE guide to reclaiming bank charges. If they don't respond to you within 8 weeks (or even if they do and say it is their final response) without adopting a "positive and sympathetic approach" to your claim, and/or you are not satisfied with that response, you can then ask the independent ombudsman to consider your claim and how it has been handled.
Not paying your salary into that account in future, and so presumably incurring you in even more unauthorised overdraft charges than you would otherwise incur, will not help your case. As in the case of any claim, you have a responsibility to mitigate any loss."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Premier - Thanks for that advice. I will have good read through the guide about reclaiming.
I understand what you are saying about not paying my salary in - thus incurring additional charges BUT - I am in process of setting up DMP and all advice there states to leave present bank and move to basic bank account elsewhere - hence the confusion. Am I between the deveil and the deep blue sea!! Which Way Should I Jump!!0 -

This probably isn't the best board to get advice on a DMP from. You will probably get better responses to any questions you have over setting up a DMP on the Debt Free Wannabe board
However, in regards to how a DMP may or may not affect your bank charges, I would say that a DMP is not a legally binding agreement, there is no obligation on your creditors to freeze interest, and in fact a creditor may not even accept the proposal made in a DMP.
All you can do is ask them to consider it and see what they will agree to. As usual, it's all about what you can successfully negotiate."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
