  • Can someone please help? We were contacted by MRAM from N Rock regarding a loan we took out in 2005 and which we may be intitled to a refund of the ppi. They state that they have received our claim on feb 7th. When I asked how long till we hear and they stated 16 weeks. But I heard on breakfast tv that the banks must reply within 8 wks. My husband and I had a huge row about this cause he said the normal rules don't apply because they contacted us not the other way around and if they reject our claim first time round we can take it no further. Is this right?

I sent a e-mail to my bank on 20th April asking to claim back bank charges. I've had a reply saying they will look into it. I have internet banking so it has only taken me about an hour to go through all my statements as far back as May 2006. At national minimum wage rate that is about £6 for an hours work. I hit the criteria for being in financial hardship so the way I see it is that I may as well have a go at claiming it back - the worst they can say to me is NO.... why not have a pop at claiming them back... might just be worth it! The charges that they have put on my account add up to £1846 if I add interest its £2321.46.... Definitely worth it in my book

    Just received a letter from the TSB it states;

We would like to let you know we have considered the circumstances you raised.
Having reviewed how your account has been managed, we are unable to refund all the bank charges you have requested.

To support you with your financial situation, for account XXXXXXXX, we will be refunding £280.00 and waiving a further £10.00 in charges that were due to be applied. This is for all the charges incurred since April 2011 to present date.

You have also mentioned you were charged as a result of previous charges debiting your account. Any Unplanned Overdraft or Returned Fees applied to your account will not be included in the calculation of any future charges that you incur.

These fees will be incurred if you continue to use an Unplanned Overdraft and if account fees take you into (or further into) an Unplanned Overdraft when they are applied to your account.

    So...what do i do now??

What do you want to do?

It looks to me as if they are saying that a bit of account mismanagement has occurred but that they are still giving you a refund despite this because of your circumstances, all-be-it perhaps not the full amount you were expecting.
It's still a result. How much did you ask for?

Well tbh honest i didn't ask for a certain amount!!

I actually thought i'd get a letter telling me that i'm not getting anything.

Maybe a should start from scratch and ask for my account details and calculate the charges and ask for them....then again they could tell me to boil me head ;0)

It's not a hard decision as far as I can see!
    You can either:
    a) Lose their offer to refund some of your charges and possibly boil your head too - ouch:rotfl:
    or
    b) Take the good will gesture of £280 and frozen charge.

  • My partner had an account with lloyds TBS he closed his account but interest has been added on to it each month £6.99. He has moved house a few times after he had closed his account and knew nothing about the interest being added on each month intill a few years later when he received a letter from a debt recovery company. As we were going to be going for a mortgage soon he just paid off the debt as he didnt want it hanging over us going for the mortgage. When we went for the mortgage we couldnt do it as it has now come up on his credit report as a bad payer. They also think that the account had been used for fraud as big amounts of money had been going in and out the account. They did give us the statement with the amounts on when we first received the letter from the recovery company but now wont let us have any information because of the fraud on the account.
Can we reclaim back the money that was being added to the account as we knew nothing about it? or has anyone got any help with this?
    cheers

The way I see it is the interest that was added was for outstanding amounts owing on the account and I didn't think you could close an account if there is money owing. I presume your partner checked the balance of his account before closing it. If the bank has added interest incorrectly then yes he should be able to claim it back. However he would have to have the approprite paperwork to prove the account was closed?

Because of the fraud issue you need to speak to the bank, in person preferably, to see what's been going on and to clear your name with the mortgage company and also on his credit rating.
  • Hi

I am hoping to make a claim to Natwest for bank charges on the basis that the amount of charges is massively unfair in relation to the original debt but I have a few questions.

Basically I had an account with Natwest with what I believed was an interest free overdraft of £300. I had wages paid into the account and used it fairly regularly for about 2 years from 2008-2010. Around 2009 I noticed a monthly interest charge of around 1p to 2p being charged. Eventually I stopped using the account and left it overdrawn at £290 aware in the back of my mind I would pay it off when I had the cash and that the interest would not send it over the overdraft.

To cut a long story short the account went overdrawn by 7p due to the interest which at this point was at around £5 a month. This has now basically spiralled into a debt of £1300 essentially for going 7p overdrawn.

Stupidly I moved and didn't change my address so I had no letters from them. The debt was passed to a debt collection agency who have sent me 6 years of statements on my request. Even thought it has been passed to a debt collection agency can I still make a claim with the bank?? I have tried to contact them and they have refused to speak to me saying the account has been frozen.

Would I be better making a claim for financial hardship as I am sure I would also qualify for this due to other debts and bills etc
