I got £300 back from Halifax, cleared in my account 10 days after sending first letter, this is their final decision but I can still take it to the ombudsman, which i probably will as its less than half of what I claimed for.
I also have no charges for the next 6 months

I received an unsolicited refund of £86 plus £12.89 interest from RBS last week, charges go back to 2008/9. Funds were in my account before the letter arrived which explained that I had been charged in error and they were refunding the charges. This was on an old gold deposit account which used to allow direct debits. Haven't had anything on my current account.
My son who also banks with RBS received about £300 at the end of March with the same letter.
There is a thread with some Natwest customers receiving similar letters and refunds. RBS/Natwest must have had some FSA directive, can't imagine they would voluntarily refund charges.0 -
Recently i complained to the financial ombudsman sevice (fos),regarding overdraft charges on my bank account due to having PPi on the account. Within four weeks of this complaint being recieved by barclays they sent a letter to say they acknowledge it and will be dealing with it within another four weeks. This saturday 16/06/2012 they rang and asked how much do i think they owe me in bank charges I told them in the region of £3000 (rough estimate for the last six years) and they said i would be highly unlikely to get this back due to the fact that they send letters about overdraft charges and PPI is clearly stated on the account and i should of reliased what it was so I also told them that due to mounting debts that i had to sell my house and move back in with my parents, and the overdraft charges kept snowballing and also i didn't relise what the ppi charge was and that was the reason for the complaint. So they have offered me £200 in a goodwill gesture and say that i can still complain if i want to, if is worth it? Why not just close the account or ring barclays to question the original ppi settlement.0

hi skidy
the high court ruled that persnal bank charges cannot be challanged for fairness unfortunatly in THE TEST CASE , credit card charges can be , the office of fair trading encourages anyone to claim back any charge over £12 on credit card accounts with a 8% interest from 6 years back , the oft will not challange any charge below the £12, i have alot more knowledge on this topic as i only recently took the natwest to the county court over such charges and failed (personal bank account) and am happy to help others regards to what to do etc the ppi should be straight forward from a legal view , but they dont want to part with anything but remember its your money and you want it back with 8% interest0 -
Expected to achieve the results you want ,do not know what to say0

I have been charged £480 by the coop bank in the last year for (small) unauthorised overdrafts and returned payments. I am on a Debt Arrangement Scheme; what are my prospects of claiming back the charges?0

10 weeks ago i sent a letter to the natwest to reclaim £2500 worth of charges in the last 6 years. 2 days ago i had £70 put in my account labelled as compensation. today i recieved a letter to say my claim was unsuccessful and the £70 was a goodwill gesture. they told me i could go to the ombudsman if i wanted. Has anyone done this and is it likely i will get the charges back??0

I sent a letter to Santander on 12/6/12 challenging the vast amount of charges applied to my account over the years. I was spurred on when I found a wad of old statements when clearing out a cupboard prior to a pending house move and totalled charges up to over £1200! Today they've sent me a letter saying that they've refunded £20 for this months AUTHORISED overdraft fee but nothing else.
My letter to Santander, following the site's template, clearly stated that I was stuck in a cycle of charges and the list of charges from my old statements (2004-2010) showed that this was being compounded in a massive way. In one 3 month period, I was charged a total of £420!
The thing that's really driven me over the edge today is the fact that their response states " Our collections & recoveries centre will be happy to help you" but then goes on to say, "please note, if Collections & Recoveries become involved in the administration of your account, it may affect your credit rating".
This to me sounds threatening and I have worked damn hard to get a respectable credit score.
I intend on chasing this as due to regular bills, I am not presently in a position to clear my overdraft and hope to use refunded fees to clear this.
I know my post is all over the place but so is my head! Anyone think I stand a chance of claiming?0 -
