Looking for some advice. I sent a letter last week about the charges I had recieved from barcays partner finance, totaling over £1700. They have already answered offering to clear and close the account wich is £444 and also a good will payment of £350. Should I accept it?

Unless you have a very, very good reason not to, I would.:)
  • Hello all
I just wanted to share my good news. I sent a letter just under two weeks ago to my bank, Santander, complaining about the bank charges. My claim was for £260. Although I am yet to receive an official letter from them, when I logged on this morning, I was quite surprised to see that they had refunded me £160 for charges! Plus they have cancelled the £50 charge that would be taken from my account at the end of this month! Although its £100 less than my claim, I am still very happy with this result, seeing as I wasnt expecting anything to come from it. I had tried a few years ago to reclaim £1,700 from Abbey National but I received quite a few no's from them and gave up. Thank you so much Martin for the template!

  • Hi guys!

Registered on here because of this thread. Just started a claim against RBS for bank charges for about £1500. Sent away the letter on Friday using the template on here! Feel I have a strong case as I have complained numerous times to them about the date they apply the charges to my account (17th of the month) is simply not suitable seeing as how I get paid on the 28th of each month.

The charges they add are simply the cause of previous charges they have added to my account and not only that its wiping out my working tax credits which I use to pay for things for my 4 month old son!

We will see what happens but heres hoping I get some good news! Could be doing with it!
  • I approached Barclays bank abut 10 years ago to have a £100 cheque guarantee card ( i had a £50 guarantee card) I was told the only way to get this was to upgrade my account to a fee paying account which I have been paying for all this time. I was informed by another bank recently when I questioned this payment that banks would not have charged customers to obtain a £100 cheque guarantee card. I telephoned Barclays on two occasions to be told there should have been no charge for this (Barclays have advised me they have no record of the calls, although they advice at the start of each call that calls may be recorded). I wrote letter of complaint. Barclays responded that they could not uphold the complaint, didn't answer the question about whether this was the only way to obtain the guarantee card but did advise me of extra benefits my account has (which I was unaware of and have never used). However this was not the issue as I was advised that taking this fee paying account was the only way to obtain the cheque card. Barclays have offered me £78. I have written to the Ombusman however they have advised is it was over 6 years the complaint could not be upheld. I was told if i had made the complaint earlier the likelihood would have been that it would have been upheld. I have asked the ombusman to review the complaint but dont hold out much hope. Barclays never mentioned the time which has passed in any of their correspondence with me. I am astounded at the treatment i have had from barclays as I have been a good customer for a long time and my husband has been for over 30 years (same account which became a joint when we married). wondered if anyone has any advice, thank you

    Hey all,

Just wanted to say thank you! Sent a letter on behalf of my mother to Lloyd's using the template provided here. I didn't contact them for a list of the charges so had no idea what to expect. My mother received a credit into her account a couple of days later for £400. The best news is that they've only refunded THIS years fees (Jan 2012- Now). So off goes another letter to ask for the rest :D

    Thank you so much Martin!

All it took was one simple letter to Natwest credit card asking for a full refund inc. interest of £159.77 in charges. We got a reply 14 days later offering us a £197 refund. Success!!!
  • Hello, i have followed the letters and advice posted within this website to reclaim over £800 including interest of bank charges. Initially going to Barclays, who said they were not going to refund the charges and then the Ombudsman. Who also said that the charges are fair and are not going to be refunded due to the high court ruling in 2009 etc etc. Having gone to Barclays and the Omsbumans I feel like my time and efforts have been wasted. Has anyway else hit two brick walls like mine, and if so what is the next step, if there is one? Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Kind regards
    Unhappy customer!
  • Tried claiming under hardship criteria to Halifax and no luck as yet... next step the FOS to see where I get... It;s got to be worth a try right?
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?
  • Hi all,

Does anybody know which address I should be sending my Santander reclaim to? Apologies if it's already been posted can't seem to find an answer anywhere.

    Thanks in advance
