Well done Wigglespig. I sent a letter and all charges to the CEO of RBS/Natwest on the 10th and not had a dicky bird back. No phone call, email, letter - nothing!
I think a strongly worded email to him is next.....0 -

Hey, i am so happy... not only did i email the CEO of Santander, i also emailed the CEO of Halifax asking for any charges to be repaid from the last 6 years. i explained how we are in such hardship (mortgage arrears, payday loans, credit cards) i had a phone call from a lovely gentleman today (only 3 days after i emailed) saying he would recredit me £452.00 (charges from the last 12 months) and cancel any charges incured between now and December.
This has put us back in credit in the first time in years. I know it's not a huge amount but i feel as though i am beginning to see light at the end of what has been a very long and dark tunnel.
I am still waiting for the final response from Santander, as i missed their call yesterday...
So i urge anyone out there who is struggling give it a go. You might be plesently surprised as i have been.
Thankyou Martin, without the templates or success stories i would never have written:money:

PERSONAL ACC : CLAIMED £1030 , WE GOT BACK £274 , plus HSBC had to stop any interest in order to let us repay debt
Business: Claimed £ 657 , won 243.45 , again interest stopped in order to clear account.
We did fight with them for over 14 months , for unfair charges , in the end we did go to Ombudsman , and they partially agree that HSBC played not very fair game , and we proved HSBC'S awful mistakes as well as rubbish customer services. they even pushed as to ask Ombudsman to recall tapes with our converstions with them , that was ONLY way to prove how rubbish they were. we did not get full refund , but still better than nothing. And feeling you won with those rubbish people who were trying to ripp you offpriceless

may i ask you what these bank charges were for and why had you asked them to go back 6 years because i was only offered a year refund with lloyds i complained to them but that was there final decision so they told me to go to the FOS which i am going to do0 -
Well i got a reply from 'xxx, Customer Relations' after recieving my emails to the CEO, and after reviewing my account and the charges, they have kindly credited my account with £10 to bring it back into credit, and have stopped 2 charges for september... cheers!!
After looking through statements i have had a total of £1050 in charges since April 2009.. In the letter they say to accept it as "final offer" due to the OFT and court proceedings etc..
What should I do, should I write the initial letter saying i have calculated charges etc and i am requesting them back (as i just contacted the CEO directly)
Or should I go down the Ombudsman route??
anyone??

Brightness wrote: »Thanks for that. I am just about to go 'into war' with Nat West. I tried claiming before and just got the 'no sorry' bumf. As I was ill at the time I couldn't be bothered to fight (just didn't have the strength).
I went overdrawn in the first place by NW taking out a DD a week before it was due (the Branch manager was appalled and tried to get charges removed but couldn't). I have banked with NW for over 30 years so know the staff well. All they could offer me, as the charges started spiralling, was a loan to pay them all off as it worked out 'cheaper' (their words).
I had no option but to take it as I just couldn't pay the charges - I am Disabled due to two serious RTA's (neither my fault) and have a very limited income of just disability benefits.
I manage my money OK now (as I was doing so before that blip by them) I am wondering if it's worth writing to them enclosing statements that shows what happened & also explaining about the loan too. Even if they just cancelled out the loan which is less now than the charges as I have paid a lot off it, it would be something.
Here's hoping.... Will draft a letter tomorrow & let you all know how I get on. Will also tell them that I don't want to move accounts to another bank but feel I have no option....
As I posted this on 20/04 and have only just in the past two weeks gotten around to writing to them. I thought I'd let you know how I got on....
I was claiming back £2203.73 in charges (inc interest) plus all payments made on a loan that they forced me to take out to pay of the charges. I also asked for the remainder of the loan be wiped out.
The guy has said that he will refund £525.35 in charges plus, as I have have already paid back more than the original loan (and still owe half of it) he will refund me £135.95 on that (the payments that go over the original loan) plus he will wipe out the existing balance of £1311 on the loan.
I know I shouldn't have had to take out the loan in the first place but I am tbh more than happy as I will be getting £661.30 in my account and being almost £70 a month better off as well. This means I can help out my student son who has been told by his uni that he has got to pay for two extra courses that aren't included in his course (we were told they were - he had the chance to do them locally for 'free' as he'd spent so much time as a youth volunteer at a local rugby club but uni said not to bother!).
Not quite the result I'd hoped for but a lot better than I had expected :beer:0 -
