Reformed shopaholic? please can you give me the benefit of your advice

I have just read what you said about not finding anything that fits - I feel exactly the same. I can only try on so many bad-fitting items before I give up and go home. It's disappointing.
I would say my nan is a shopaholic... she has two bedrooms which are literally packed with carrier bags of stuff that has never even been looked at - it's stacked up all over the bed, floor, drawers and wardrobes crammed with stuff. She is housebound now but still asks my mum to bring in all sorts of things for her. Things she doesn't need and will never wear. I guess it must be frustrating being a shopaholic who's unable to go shopping!
I will get a photo of one of her bedrooms of stuff some day. You'll probably be shocked. She has been like this all her life so doubt we'll be able to change her now (she's clocking on for 90). she likes people bringing things in for her, it seems to cheer her up so don't really begrudge her anything.
Maybe that's where I *inherited* the compulsive shopping from? Because my mum is certainly not much of a shopper.0 -
I am the same with my clothes - Lots of beautiful clothes id love to wear yet too big to fit into them!! Also when you go shopping and you see something on a hanger in your size, try it on and you look awful, very disheartening.
Running late today - good job meeting in sheff was meant to be at about 11 will now be about 12 lol.Learning to be 'good with money'0 -

Never thought I'd see myself write this, but I should treat myself to something. I've gone from one extreme to the other. I don't get any buzz from shopping anymore, I just feel very guilty about.
I'm beginning to hate *stuff*. I see my nan's house (which I used to think was a treasure trove) and it makes me panic because I never want to end up with that much stuff, all brand new in their carrier bags. I could really see myself heading in that direction up until a couple of months ago... The only thing I need is a new jacket. I didn't need the smock.
I agree with you, hence me doing such a massive declutter; I have 5 archive boxes FULL of things to try and sell, which I've lugged all around the UK. Due to me moving house in 2 weeks and then again, 2 months later, I need to downsize NOW so am going to attempt to sell these items and then if they don't sell, they're going to charity as I have literally spent time and money and sweated dragging these unwanted items from house to house only for them to sit there in the way gathering dust. My new room is tiny so it's time to get real. I also used to buy more books all the time, despite having over 200 waiting to be read a home...I'm already on top of that situation though, so it's ok.I am the same with my clothes - Lots of beautiful clothes id love to wear yet too big to fit into them!! I have the same problem, only I am too small. It's really not fun at all at times, and most kids' clothes are too childish looking for my taste if you see what I mean. Also, the difference in sizing between shops is madness, and I wish they'd regulate it so a 12 in one shop is the same in the one next door.0 -
Oh I agree FE - a 16 should be a 16 everywhere! Its so disheartening when you have to pull the bigger size out in the shop! lol.
I cant say ive had a good day with BF today
Met in meadowhall, and I felt sick this morning I jst put it down to having no time for breckie and rushing round. So met up, went to the chinese buffet at centretainment, now, it was either really horrible or I was starting to feel worse, as I felt dead sick after. Went to m/hall shopping and threw up in debenhams!! So we then made our way to the train station, what a lovely fella though he came to sheffield and we sat down and had a coffee and just relaxed made me feel a little better to be honest just sitting down, with a drink with a friendly funny guy and the toilets near by! And then it came time to say our goodbyes
so went to my train platform, we had read the departure details wrong, the 1638 i should have got went from platform 5 - not platform 6 which i was sat at, so ended up having to wait until 405 :O Ah well, had a fairly good day i guess
Can't wait to see him next
he is such a sweetheart
Nephew stopping tonight and being taken to mcdonalds - i dont think im going lol.Learning to be 'good with money'0 -
Ifind i also shop out of bordem anyone else do that? Bored so ill hit the town or the internet:( Just spent money on the bodyshop glitch though it was needed as i have totally run out and even to buy cheaper items would have cost me more than the stuff i got in the glitch:o. Also sold 2 pairs of shoes on ebay and a dress and some games are about to go so it didnt really cost me anything:)0

LittleKitty - when I was off work I spent around four months wlking round the shopping centre shopping because I was bored so no way are you alone. I spent £40 in the bodyshop glitch - not because I needed the stuff, but I want to return and buy things I need, naughty I know, but I wont be alone. I don't ebay things as I sold last year some stunning items which i thought would get me a few quid after all fees I think i only got 20 quid :S so I prefer to "swap" on bigwardrobe now

I dont know if i mentioned
But im going to London to see my best friend end of June, so I have decided to do something I have never done before. In the past, I would just spend as I go along, putting it on the debit card and not really worrying about it. BUT this time, I am putting as much money as I can - such as no spending my dinner money (Yep ive given myself "dinner money" lol.) so the rule is, Ill pay my train fair seperately, but anything I want there, dinner cocktails, frivverlousness has to come out of my tin
I have just put £7 in there
Need to try and find a way of skipping spending things to pay for a christening outfit now
Oooo by the way ladies, a 21 year old woman going to a neices christening who shes not god mum to but very close to, at a summer christening obvs in a church then a party at home, what would you wear? I havnt a clue in all honesty? Does any of you ladies find, that you are perfectly able to think of outfits for others but for yourself no? Would be easy just to draw money out but i dont want to do that
Promised myself if I pass pitstop though im going to have any outfit I fall in love with irrelievent of if it costs a bit
Would prefer to be able to wear it again though
Im watching over the rainbow now, isnt Jessica amazing :O can't believe they didnt love her performance!!!!!Learning to be 'good with money'0 -
Yes she is:) kinda makes me think they have made up their minds for dorothy already:( Havent heard of the wardrobe swap thingy before what way does it work? I know what you means bout ebay fees:(0
-
Basically, bigwardrobe is a swap site. So those items of clothing that you don't wear/are too big small/ not you etc tht you brought in a rush moment, well theres a good chance they are somebody. So, you put them in a vertual wardrobe, others put theres in a vertul wardrobe and you trade. I didnt pay for my membership but I think its £12 now, but I would say worth it
Let me know if you want ny more info
Yeah I think they kind of have their favorites which is sad. I felt sorry for Jenni but I don't think she was truely distrought about it, end of the day, if you are going to be Dorothy you need report with animals, and she didnt. I thought Lauren was miles better than Jenni to be honest too. Whose your favorite? I think theres something about Jessica, when they did there wizzard of oz thing I just thought she had stage presence
Learning to be 'good with money'0 -
I like jessica too she just has sooo much stage presence all the rest kinda just shrink into the background :)she seems to be good with doggies and as the lord said thats very important:D Your right about jenny i think she knew her time was up she took it well:) Im lovin their shoes and the proper red dorothy ones make me drool every time i see them sittin there in the glass dome:p Read in the newspaper bout how much it cost to make each girl their crystal shoes cant remember the exact amount but it was thousands:eek: i know what im buyin if i win the lotto lol:D Well you can dream:p.
I regd on the wardrobe site though it didnt cost me anything but maybe i havent done the whole process yet:(0 -
Hi all
Completelylost - I know your nan is housebound, but I think that I wouldn't get the pleasure she does from having people buy for her - although I probably would if I was buying mail order. I used to have probs with that, there was such a buzz from the browsing and getting a parcel from the postman. But once it was home I lost interest. .
Nglady - I'd wear a summery dress for the Christening with a jacket or pretty cardigan - in case the church was cold. Or a skirt and jacket depending on what you type of clothes you like to wear. And also prepare for rain!
I'm glad you b/f was still attentive of you, even though you weren't feeling well on your date.
Although I've been really good with impulse buys on the book and clothes lately but got very silly with buying snacks, was quite horrified when I realised just how much I'd got between Monday and Saturday this week. Need to face reality. I've had very bad indigestion and heartburn lately so I should be more careful.
I also bought 3 mags, one at lunchtime today and was desperate to have it - yet it's 10. 30pm and still haven't unpacked it.0
