MMM when I worked in my previous shop we sold Breast cancer t shirts and they flew out so I do think people like to be seen to be supporting a good cause. Whether or not they give other money to charity is something I don't know X

^I'm the same size as you, trying to get down to a large 12/small 14 by the summer. I seem to get to a certain weight and my body won't let me lose any more, no matter how much I exercise/restrict calories. Grrrrrr indeed. Although I used to be that size so I know it's possible.

Today was a NSD for me. I'm getting frighteningly good at this...

Yes CL - I think we are quite similar. I dont tend to get any smaller than a size 16! When I was 15, I lost weight from a 18 down to a 8, now I know 6 years on I have womanly hips blah de blah so i probs wont be a eight again, but surely a 14?! lol.

Isn't it a buzz when U do a spend dairy at the end of the day and you've hardly spent :D I think my week, despite going to Manchester at £20 a pop is going to come in as under £70 :O which is a lot, but remember the £136 the other week :S

    Hi girls,

Noticed the posts about sizes. I don't think you need to worry about sizes because I wear a size 12 (often too big) right up to size 18-20 - all depends on the style and material.

Losing weight plateau - no idea if this works for everyone. But there was time I was unwell and had an infection and was advised at the doctors to eat as normal but drink a small glass of water every hour. The weight just dropped off and it was very unexpected as I had thought I'd lose a few pounds due to excess water in the body but this was something else happening..

I have to admit it's not easy to keep up, literally every hour and the only times I've ever done it was when I was genuinely ill. I've never been able to do it normally. It doesn't seem to work if you do in now and again during the day, it has to be consistently every hour and a small amount...

Thats very interesting about the water I drink lots of water when on a health kick but gonna try that one. Clothes sizes vary as much as shoe sizes I wear anything from a 3 1/2 to a six and I take a 4! Charity shops always have more nicer clothes in smaller sizes too so quite money saving if you can get down to a smaller size. Our local church are going to revive their old fashioned jumble sales soon as I think the charity shops are getting too expensive, ours is very boutiquey now with a mangager that is fussy what she puts in the shop. I would love a rumage through what she chucks out.
There was a link to a free spending diary I used to find useful can anyone find it for me or tell me the name of it ta.

    Hi Jinny -Diaries forum -
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=177

Hope the water drinking works for you. I always drink a lot throughout the day but it doesn't affect my weight in the way that 'every hour' method does.

Remember not to drink a lot of it, because that can cause adverse effects. I'll never forget the article in the papers last year I think it was when a young mum drank an excess of water in one go and died.

Shoe sizes. I always thought I was a size 5 1/2 - well that was the size I took for all my winkle picker type shoes. When I had to wear flats due to a foot disorder I started having to buy a 6 and now it's been 7 for years.

Anyone else found a difference between sizes in high and flat shoes?

Jumble sales are a good place for bargains. One of my charity shops is like one and they sell fantastic stuff for a pound.

p.s. good luck for today girls
  • Hi all, Just back from my parents. They live in a small town which is known for its charity shops, so I'm afraid I've a few purchases to declare. Five good quality items for £21 which I convinced myself I needed so not too bad. I'm also a size sixteen by the way. But apparently it's the most common dress size now.

Angela, Not really any huge variance in shoe size here. Im a size 6, sometimes in boots I find a 7 fits more, could never wear a size 5 though, but sometimes I loose weight on my feet and my size 6's are slobby :S wierd! But my mother when she goes on holiday, her feet "blow up" kind of, and in her words her feet are like an Elephants. I can't wear flat shoes that well, the only pair of summer flats I own are a faith size 6 :)

With clothes sizes, I wish the government etc would agree what a size actually is measurement wise ad all shops had to keep to this size, would make shopping so much easier. My sister was a size 6 when she married, and her wedding dress, was a FOURTEEN!?

Not a long term fix but a couple of years ago, I was going to a really posh party with my ex, and the month before I thought I needed to loose some weight. So for a month, all I had was water and grapes put all the weight back on within a week of finishing though lol.

Well, i'm going to Manchester tomorrow and he has transfered my train fair to me, what a lovely guy. I think we're going to take it in turns paying if I go up there, because its still cheaper than petrol for him. Bless him though I told him £18.40 and hes transfered me £40 "Just in case" :)

I'm really proud of myself this week :) I really thought it was going to be excessively expesive week. Now, whilst I admit, there is a lot on my list that wasn't essentials, i've only spent £47.77 (How procise lol) so with a bit of luck, especially considering my train fair has been paid for me I'll be able to manage my £70 target which will be my cheapest week in a long time :) Lesson Learnt: even if I feel bored and that I want to go shopping, if i've already been to town with the mindset of shopping once that week I genuinely can't afford to, also another lesson learnt: sort the money that I "can spend" out before I go, and apart from a debit card for emergency, thats it no more money can come :)

  • I could've swore I'd wrote a long reply earlier... weird?!!
But as I was saying, re: shoe sizing I think the same as Anglea. I wear flats all the time and take a 9.5... but in heels a size 8 usually fits, which is no use to me because I am 6ft so don't ever wear heels.

And I'm going to try the water thing... I drink a fair bit of water anyway, but don't really space it out through the day. Anything's worth a try! I've set the alarm on my phone to remind me, lol.

NGlady, that was generous of your date - can't imagine many guys wanting to do that for a girl. I think it would make me feel a bit awkward accepting money from someone I barely know :S But then if he insists, what can you do?!

My total spends so far this month on non-necessities are £23.28. Still can't quite believe it, I think I must be ill or something because the appeal of shopping is starting to wear off... in fairness, I have spent some vouchers (£49) but I got them from doing surveys etc so I don't feel bad about that.

So yeah... I'm not sure what today will hold, spend-wise. I have to go to the Post Office again but that's all I have planned.
