Where I live clothing stores are scarce so no matter what age, everyone shops at New Look and Peacocks, from children to over 80's in there. And I've also noticed that some of the older ladies look better than the youngsters in the same clothes, usually if they are slim and the clothes look smart.

Years ago it would have been unbelievable to see these little old ladies with shopping trolleys and a blue rinse in a younger person's clothes shop but it happens now all the time. Clothes used to be aimed a different ages so if you were older there wasn't a lot of choice. Somedays when I see an older lady with old-fashioned clothes it seems very strange. Remember crimplene (shudders)? Couldn't imagine Madonna wearing anything like that when she's 60.
That's true actually... my mum is 50 but she wears similar clothes to me (skinny jeans, boyfriend cardies, etc) so I don't think it matters that much anymore. I guess it just a case of wearing what you feel comfortable in.

Angela, im expecting to see a trend of young people with old person shopping trollies any season now, kind of suprised it hasnt happend already.

Strangely enough I saw a lot of trendy ones in Ethel A's just before it closed. Wondered who would buy them. Still it's a good idea if you're a shopaholic isn't it NGlady :rotfl:probably not too bad for the bus either, the new type of ones!

Ooo by the way, im about to finish reading saving Karyn - can anybody recommend any books or any authors who write chick flicky type books :)

The demented housewife books from this author are really funny. http://www.niamhgreene.com/Site/Articles.html

Also Marian Keyes is good for chick lit.

And not chick lit but I really want to read this, very relevant to this thread:)http://www.amazon.co.uk/Give-Up-Year-Learning-Better/dp/0060789808/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1271112504&sr=8-5

I want one of those trollies (SERIOUSLY) for supermarket shopping as I cut the f**k out of my hands carrying multipacks of soft drinks and beer home. I have seen quite cool ones, eg not granny tartan, so will probably get one.

Have you read In The Red by Alexis Hall? I am just reading that now on the basis of recommendations on this thread. In terms of chick lit, look into Polly Williams, Jane Green, Jane Moore, Sophie Kinsella, Fiona McNeill as starters. Not a fan of Marian Keyes to be honest. And as a personal plug; I have a buy one get one free on ALL my books on Greenmetropolis including LOTS of chick lit, much of which is completely unread.

As for the dress, it's ok but think this way: if it's not cotton, it will make you sweat more come the summer. But for £12 it's a good deal and I wouldn't say a woman in her 30s is too old to wear it. I really want a certain Tesco dress I saw in their stores but they only have the larger sizes left in store and online. Gutted. :(

Flickering Ember, on my swap site last year there was a girl who wanted a Kath Kitston one of those trollies lol.
Oooo do let me know about how to buy from you chick :) Would prefer my money to go to somebody like you than a big company :)

CL - I am in the exact same boat as you, I shop because im board and have been trying to find things to "replace" - been doing a lot more exercise. And im the same, on my facebook I look like ive got lots of friends, look closer and there all over the country but not local to me, which means I could have some fantastic weekends away but it isn't like I have people just to hook up with to go to the Cinema, it isnt fun is it?!

  • So, I'd intended not to buy ANY new clothes/shoes until Sept but I have just slipped up...

Bought a pair of black leather knee boots from the Office sale for £43.50 shipped (original retail £105 / plus 7% topcashback) - my thinking is that come Sept I will need to buy a pair and at that time everything will be full price around £90+. I live in this kind of boot (with leggings/jeans) and my current pair is not real leather.

Please, somebody make me feel better! I still have £5,000 of debt left with a debt free date of Sept 2010.

    Evening,
Just got in... walked into town at about 4pm, it was soooooo fricking cold. The mother's car is at garage and I refuse to pay £2.10 on the bus. Anyway, all I bought was dental floss (£1 paid with a voucher), some sports earphones (£5.99 but I paid with a £5 voucher + 99p cash) and 51p postage.

I mainly went out for some hairdye as my hair looks crapola at the moment :( but Superdrug didn't have the one I wanted, grrrrr indeedy.

NGlady - your spends for the past few days are quite low. As for Facebook... I had it but got rid because I had loads of so-called 'friends' but never spoke to any of them really :o The only purpose it served was to make me feel bad!!

debtfreeforever - I'm not sure what to say about the boots. On one hand I'd have probably bought them too, but on the other hand the money could've gone towards paying off your debt. I guess it's up to you to decide whether you did the right thing or not. Totally not trying to make you feel bad, hope you don't read it that way :)
