I'm developing into cool but skint auntie I think. She wants to come and stay overnight and can once the lodger goes this week (Then I'll be even more skint!)
I play wii and board games with her and this year I am making a bag for her so I think I'll be on even more brownie points. I think she's a lovely girl, occasionally a bit self centred but with a really good sense of humour.

MrsMoo, dirty jokes???? I'm shocked and stunned! :rotfl:
Hmmmmm, I suspect my neices and nephew's think I am a proper Aunty becasue I always buy them books. (Though this year I have made an concentrated effort to ensure they've something different. It was tough! Next year will be book year.)
This Sundy I must clean the flat, wrap the pressies and get myself sorted to be ready to drive to my family at the weekend. Although just now I am going to make fried egg on toast, a pot of tea and listen to Amy Winehouse and psych myself up to a busy day of lazy pottering!I can't feel my fingers from scraping the car this morning so I refuse to go back out into the day.
But I must stay away from the eBay, I must stay away from the eBay, I must stay away from the eBay... I bought a pair of boots, which will hopefully arrive soon (that's ok, because I needed them) and a gorgeous (bright blue, short) dress that I didn't need, have nowhere to wear it to and will need to be brave enough to wear! I'm thinking I can probably wear it with leggings, though I'm not really much of a leggings girl. It is gorgeous though.
I also bid on a pair of ye olde fashioned roller skates (I've found a roller disco on near me and I want to go!), but I have been outbid on these and am trying to resist the urge to bid again! I'm sure I will be able to hire skates at the roller disco!!!:rotfl:

I wear dresses with knee length boots and thick tights at this time of year. Your dress sounds lovely and just your colour
Hmmm, I seem to have brought my nieces a lot of books this year. Luckily they were mostly on their Amazon wish lists so that is OK I think
They have two more aunties, one of which has very little to do with them. The other is madder than me and they adored her as small children, now they are adults they seem to be closer to me. I don't care as long as they are well and happy
I think you will have a great time at the roller disco, may be worth a phone call to make sure that you can hire on the day/night.
Now get cleaning and wrapping woman :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
yes Nic, rude jokes but only once they were old enough..... All my nephews are grown now. I am definitely the mad aunty. One nephew calls me Daphne (after the character in Scooby Doo) when I announced that I wanted to buy a VW campervan and asked his Dad to come and look at it with me. They duly came along and the joke was lost on me when he started to call me Daphne, my brother explained it was because I had a Great Dane and wanted a VW like the one in Scooby Doo. I got all excited at that point until my nephew said "No aunty not the good looking one the geek!" :rotfl::rotfl: Mind she does sum me up.
Books....... get them a book every year and have done since the first Christmas but then I do add in things like drums, maracas, harmonicas, and as many noisy toys as I can find.
Dress.. Nic I would buy some really thick woolly tights with patterns (if the dress is plain) and some boots. Much nicer than leggings. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Butti - are you sure you were talking about your neice there?
:rotfl:
Here's a very similar dress, except mine's has a boat neck, or slash neck, whatever you call it. As there's lace in it, patterned tights might not be the best idea. I never know what colour to get with bright blue though. Black is the probably the most sensible, only it's just not on my radar. The only black I buy is trousers. It's a colour that is always the bottom of my list. (Though I am happy to do navy! I was going to buy the dress in navy, but decided to be brave!)
No tidying done so far! Lots of tea and re-installing of Spotify as it keeps "losing network connection" though I'm still online. I was only trying to listen to some Dean Martin but my computer is not having it! It was happy to listen to Little Mix but is ignoring Olly Murs. I think my laptop is having a tantrum at my musical taste!
Though I do have a washing on and the rest of the washing in piles strewn across the room! (Still catching up from having a few different sets of people staying over close after one another. How are you suppoesed to dry duvet covers in a small flat when it's minus two outside?)
Oh there's Dean now. It's cold outside you know.I think I might listen to Frank and Dean's christmas songs when I get around to the wrapping bit of the day. I'll wait until it's dark, the curtains are closed and the fire is on. In my mind, this should keep me patient and calm and sreate a cozy, christmassy scene. :rotfl:
The reality is I will be rolling on the floor, fighting with the cellotape, ripping paper left, right and centre and forgetting what I've just wrapped and who it is for. And that's without any mulled wine!
Oh, maybe that's my mistake! Mulled wine any-one?Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Gluhwein is just what I need for wrapping pressies and yes that is where you are going wrong.
Love the dress and yes, patterned tights not the way to go. How about some really nice silvery grey 80 deniers? Claudia Winkleman wears thick tights and really high heels with lots of outfits like that and she always looks fab (if I was a man I would fancy her..... she is gorgeous) Although I think that dress demands silks and stilletos to be honest. Do you have the courage for that? Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Beautiful dress
I second high heels and would wear sheer tights with it.
I have finished all my wrapping (apart from the two Amazon deliveries not yet here) :j
Rodders is now happy and snuggled up beside me on the sofa
ETA to add:  I haven't wrapped his presents. Please tell me I am not the only one that buys the dogs presents, had 4 to buy for this year:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
I have just the right pair of fabulous stappy silver stiletos... but no, I'm not brave enough! Although, I suppose in this weather they could double up a ice crampons. Silver birkenstocks???? Not quite the same look! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Maybe I should give Claudia a buzz.
I will be brave enough to wear the stiletos at the right ocassion, with proper legs too.But I do need to learn how to dress down my clothes so I can get a decent wear out of them. One of my Great Aunts used to get very upset (she has Alzheimer's and at the time was in the early stages) that she had a wardrobe full of "good clothes" and no-where to wear them or nobody left to wear them for.
So I am very much of the opinion that "good clothes" are bought to be worn and shown off. Admittedly it is sometimes difficult to pull that off! Can't imagine opping into the closest pub to Ben Lomand in that dress for examlpe. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Loch Lomand from Ben Lomand. Not even half way up. Stiletos any-one?:rotfl::rotfl: (Actually, I shouldn't laugh! I have seen almost exactly that "walking" up there.)

What about plain black leggings and roller blades. Really with your figure you could get away with any of it even spotty tights. Plain best probably and black or silver.
Well I've done my Christmas cards, a bit of prep on my pressies and cleared up the kitchen. Now need to do the weekly job hunt.

Sorry Maty, I didn't see your post earlier. MSE keeps doing that to me. They're not even cross posts either, but I see them the next time I log in. Go figure. Gremlins proabably. I will definitely wear the dress the way you say - for the right ocassion. But it's a bit OTT for most of the things I do and for all the places I like to go for a drink!
Right, 4 loads of washing done - going to put it up around the flat instead of christmas decorations!Presents removewd from hiding places and all over the living room floor ready to start wrapping.
Chick pea curry simmering as we speak.
Though I do have to moan. About my flat mate! Again. I have the tiniest kitchen. And I am veggie. And only three rings on the hob work - only two easily. As I am adding the garam masala to my curry, he comes in and starts frying his *generic red meat* (being veggie, I have no idea what kind it was - only that the smell of it makes me feel physically sick!) on the hob behind my curry, which means maneouvering around me and it spitting in the general direction of my curry.
Seriously. Like five more minutes would have killed him.
I have diagnosed him. I have a tendency to diagnos people. Force of habit.
(Have I ever mentioned I may want my flat back? Probably not. :rotfl:)Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55
