well today I busted another weekly budget, went to matalan with mum this avo (I'm never letting her come up to visit again I ALWAYS spend when she's here!) and spent £8 on jewelry, it was all reduced to £1 so got a few bits for myself and a set for part of my sis' bday for the end of the month, I get paid the day before so no chance of waiting for her gift. Then I went to visit a friend and her daughter that I've not seen in so long, we ended up getting a chinese so thats another £5.60 spent. Going to have nsd tomo then I'll buy my knickers on saturday, I know I said it was if I didn't spend anything, but I'e hardly gone off the rails and I've had three nsd this week, yesterday was the grand total of 86p in asda on eggs and bananas to make cake for my guests today. Considering that weekly spend also covered a bday pressie I think thats fairly good going.
my god-mum had me in tears this morning though. She was visiting briefly before picking up her oh from the heliport and as I was showing her the bedroom she stuffed some money in my pocket and told me to buy myself a treat. She said she was so proud of how I'd dealt with my money problems this past year and she was so proud of all I'd achieved. It's weird but being told that by someone I admire and adore that means so much more to me than actually clearing debt. I look at my godmum with her two darling children, her happy marriage and ncie house/car and feel that that is what I want from life and to hear her say such nice things to me made me feel so good. I'm going to keep that money to one side, I'm scared that if I put it in my savings account it'll get lost amongst debt payments, then when I'm off work a week on sat I'll go shopping and maybe get some new shoes or something, feels like ages since I had. Hopefully I'll be able to get out that nght and show them off too0 -
Def use the cash from god mum for a treat or two.

Yes, I was on holiday - I got a little extra from my dad's estate and used it to treat myself to a last minute week away skiing with a friend.
In true DFW style, I left the hubby and kids at home :T

Of course I still came home to all the washing that Hubby and children, bless 'em, had produced while I was away!!!
I think it was their form of protest that they had been left behind :rolleyes:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

cheeky monkeys!
but then I'm fairly sure I put a guilt trip on my mum the twice she went on holiday without me....
so are you glad you went though, I remember you had a lot of guilt about not spending it on debts.0 -
I did feel guilty before I went but then I wrote down all the things I have achieved in the past 12 months debtwise and I really did feel that I had to cut myself some slack for once.
What I did feel guilty about was not taking the family with me. The cash available would not have run to taking any of them with me skiing, but I could have managed a cheaper holiday for us all and that took a little "getting over".
Having said that, they all went skiing at New Year and I stayed at home to earn the money (self employed so no holiday pay!) so it is all fair really i suppose, just a strange way of going about it!
I seem to spend my whole life working out figures, spreadsheets, budgets and claiming bank charges etc that I had actually lost track of exactly how much of a difference we have made (if that makes any sense).
So I am glad I went, we had a fab time, I skiied my backside off (well, not literally, unfortunately - too much french bread for that to have happened!) we didn't go over our budget and had a girlie giggle, which we all need once in a while!
Back to reality now - spreadsheets, budgets, snowball calculations etc etc :rolleyes:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
you've certainly made big ends towards your debt, when you say 'at biggest' how long ago was that? you've cleared mroe than half your debt and to even get over 5k in three months is amazing, if I could do that I'd have been debt free three months ago!
we all need a little break every now and again, like you say it helps remind you where you are and where your going.
don't worry about the family either, you never stopped being a person when you became a mother and wife so you need a bit of time to yourself. your kids will realise it when they become parents and your oh is just jealous0 -
Blimey Lyns, just been catching up with your life as I've been too busy with baby things recently to be on here much. How strange about the medium getting those details right. How's the gym going? I have a stone to lose post-baby and I'm really slack at the moment.Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24
