    Great post.

I never really cared, but that was vanity of youth. Before I got ill in one of my careers (at least) my looks were definitely influential on my income IYSWIM. My mother's first career also was looks orientated. Its hard, wih the history of the ideal of women's beauty, historically nd now, to not confuse beauty and youth. FWIW my mother, though now definietly looking ''older'' is still beautiful, and some of the most beautiful women I've known I've met in their 70s plus and gasped. I don't have that sort of bone structure though, so for me youth preservation is definitely a good safety net! Added to that that when I got ill I put on weight and this is definietly not good for looks, but neither is losing (I had no idea where one could get wrinkles from weight loss:eek:).

One of my doctors and I have a joke that if I don't make any great age I want to look like I died young....(morbid but funny) not as if I got old to soon IYSWIM..:D

Another great post!! I agree, my mum is beautiful and doesn't try to hide her age. She doesn't even dye her hair! But she does get her brows waxed and tinted (ditto lashes) and it takes years off her. It's about making the best of what you've got really - and what she's got is a decent figure, fab legs and beautiful grey hair in good condition.

  • Have just caught up (again!). I'm losing track of what I've reported as used up too. Have just finished a deodorant, a MB heavenly ginger lily shower gel (nothing special), a vaseline hand cream in a pink tube which is runny but sinks in quickly and smells nice, and a small bottle of Eternity Moment perfume.

I've bought nothing since the 2nd week of January except a Tigi Superstar Tween of shampoo and conditioner, which I'm not going to start on until the one I've got in the shower is gone (I don't stash shampoos or conditioners).

I think I've saved a small fortune by not going shopping as a hobby anymore. I'm only food shopping and only go to other shops for something I specifically need. My OH lost his job in January so this was the main reason for the shopping break and we've actually got money in the bank just before payday on just my salary. This was never the case before. I've sold about 40 items on Ebay for small amounts and made around £160 which has been spent on things we wanted on Ebay (not toiletries!).

I'm very pleased that I've joined this challenge, it's really fulfilling to stop wasting money.

On the epilator story, I love mine, had it years, just for legs, and they are gradually becoming more and more bald which is great. I haven't had kids but the pain becomes more bearable very quickly IMO.

Good skin, I agree is much down to genes and looking after your health. I do think that smoking has a drastic effect on ageing too as both my sisters smoke and they look a lot more wrinkly than I do. (There's 4 years between us in age.) They have a sort of yellowish complexion too, which I assume is the nicotine.

Thanks to all on this thread for being so motivating, I love the pictures, and the reviews of products.

I all ready have 32 of them in my draw. I couldn't help myself it's on offer
    for a £. :o

32? is that the one that you spray and any man is sure to chase you up the street trying to give you a bunch of flowers? That advert may be before your time:)
  • Oh trust me, DH's back being waxed leaves him plenty hairy. I've always liked a little hair, not smooth, but dh is turning into one of those wolf people.

True story: before DH I was never that cuddley in my sleep, I like my own space, but with DH I hug him all night. On working out why this is I think its because he feels a bit like my parents' breed of dog, which I have always cuddled in bed. :o

I am building up a picture in my head here, what with your gloves with grip and high heels:D

Do you think dh would be happy with reminding you of the dog?

I've snipped a bit, hope you don't mind. Glad to hear that the challenge is helping your family finances!

I agree about the smoking too, my friends who smoke definitely look older than they are.

    Afternoon Ladies

I went through my bags for charity to see if there was anything there that I might reconsider using and grabbed out a Sanctuary Body Scrub & Body Brush, plus a couple No 7 lipsticks and another trial size pot of No 7 moisturiser, plus a trial mascara all of which I'll give a go. I also found a pot of cocoa butter scrub from TK Maxx but it'd gone off so I saved someone else from buying it.

My stash has expanded, but not by spending this time :)

Morning sparkly ladies! :j I have lost 1.7lbs this week, so am feeling very happy about that!!!!:beer::beer::beer:
    Well done, tara
Ive never used a seperate eye cream, i always thought they were just anither way for cosmetic companies too get us to spend more. Im gonna be 36 and my eyes look good i think? Should i be buying seperate?
I've always been suspicious of cosmetics companies making us buy different products that are essentially the same, yet labled for various body areas. Saying that, I do use eye moisturiser, although I never see any difference, I faithfully apply it in good faith that it's helping me in the long run. My only guages on deciding what is good and not so good is if it; a) goes on smoothly; b) sinks in fairly quickly; and c) it doesn't irritate my eyes. Most have done a & b, but only one so far hasn't irritated my eyes every time, only sometimes, and that's Boots P & P. I'll still keep trying till I find one that ticks all boxes

Sympathies to all the ladies with pore problems. I have always suffered with large pores. I find using Benefit's Dr Feelgood under your make up helps to disguise them and give you a smoother looking surface. I have noticed them tightening up with age though. I was a greasy spotty teenager, the benefit of which I am seeing now as I have no wrinkles/fine lines at all (I'm 36). I even got asked for ID in M&S before Christmas! :) So all you young ones with greasy/oily skin, it will one day pay off (I know it's not nice at the time).
Well said :T I still have some t-zone shine at times, and large pores on my nose, but on the plus side I usually get mistaken for being at about 10 years younger than my real age, in fact my OH thought I was closer to his age when we first started dating, and he's 12 years my junior ;)

Is it wrong for me to find this sweetly yet highly amusing? :o :rotfl:
Michael was in a department store and a cosmetic counter lady asked him what his "daily skincare routine" was. He replied, "everyday... I have skin."

I bought a scrub, a bubble bath and a body lotion in Tesco, a pound each. And I was doing so well!

Just about every product I am using looks empty, but keeps going on and on and on anyway. It is as if someone is refilling them in the night :rotfl:
