  • If I'm selling I always leave feedback as soon as they pay. I don't leave feedback for a seller until they leave it for me. If I'm buying I expect the seller to comment on the transaction, not to wait to see if they get positive feedback first. I think it negates the whole point of the feedback system if it's tit for tat rather than honest opinions.

That's just my opinion for what it's worth.

LOL! my 'training' on the ebay board was to do the opposite, so you don't leave good feedback for a buyer who then turns round and bites your hand! I supose you can argue that in fact the entire transaction is not concluded until the buyer accepts the goods.
I agree your way is the ethical way, but there are some horrors out there as well as the nice majority, so I feel (as an ebay virgin:rotfl:) a bit more protected this way. Where it's due, I always put "prompt payment" on my eventual feedback for a buyer.
  • Argh, I don't want to start a whole new thread as it's a totally off topic moan... so I'll apologise for it now!!!
... but my kitten has just come into heat, I've always managed to get them done first in the past, but mistimed on this one.
She hasn't shut up all day, every time the boys come in the room she starts squealing and displaying, when I'm by myself she's chirping non stop and keeps trying to get outside.
It was cute at first because she was so cuddly and she keeps doing cute little barrel rolls, but she's getting pretty annoying now as she won't stop talking and won't let me do anything!

I do think Ebay's gone down hill these days, I've been using it for about 9 years I think and there's a lot more rip off merchants on there now. It used to just be honest people selling their second hand stuff. Scammers get into everything don't they?

I've never had any dodgy buyers, but have had a couple of problems with people not paying, my biggest bugbear about that is if you report it and get your listing and selling fee refunded you can't leave feedback and therefore they go on to waste other people's time.

Ebay's fees keep increasing too so soon it won't be worth bothering with.

It's not "tit for tat" at all - I know someone who was stung when she left feedback for an expensive item (a camera lens) that she had sold when the seller paid, she then sent the item, it was signed for and the seller then left HER negative feedback several days after the lens had arrived saying that the item was badly damaged. By that time, it clearly was, in spite of her immaculate packing the front element was cracked - damage which cannot possibly have happened in transit due to the way the item had been packed, and had clearly happened when the buyer had dropped it putting it on their camera!

Like I say, as a buyer, I expect that I should be the first to leave feedback. Either way I feel that the transaction should be complete - auction won, item paid for, item dispatched and item received, so that both parties have a full picture of events and any minor problems can be resolved before feedback is left. I guess it just depends on the way you lok at things - one person's "tit for tat" is another's common sense approach! :D

Back on topic - I finished up a Sanctuary Creme Souffle body cream last night - WIBA? Absolutely yes, but only after I've used the second pot of it that's in my stash! I've got a bnatural Skin Quenching body milk to go on to next - I have to admit that first impressions aren't great, but we'll see.

By the way, if anyone has any Clinique sample sized tubes that they are using, it's well worth cutting the tops off to get the last of the stuff out - I've gained a good extra week out of my mini tube of cleanser!

  • He/she was obviously lying or they would have contacted her about it first and not just left negative feedback. I see your point. Did she put follow up remarks on the feedback to put her side of the story?

I guess the more bad experiences you have the more wary you are of people. I've only had trouble with the Royal Mail losing, damaging stuff etc and not the ebayers themselves.

joesaunt, thanks for the tip, I'll pick some of those up next time I'm at Asda :D

OMG I'm scared to death about ebay now. I'm about to sell a phone and have offered RM first class recorded delivery. If I'm the buyer I expect the seller to leave me feedback because I have paid straight away, no messing about. But now looking at it from the other side I'm scared about what to do. Should I explain that I'll leave feedback when they have recieved the item and left it for me?

What is the best postage options to use... say I'm gonna sell a boys hooded top (like I'm actually thinking about doing) what method would you use?

    HEEEEEEELLPPPP!!!

    On the subject of toiletries...

I'm going to have a bath later, read my book and relax. I doubt I'll finish my tiny tub of S&G flake away this time but hey I can try :T I've just started using a M&S hand cream for my feet because my hands don't like it. It's only small so I might finish that soon. I'm sure I'm supposed to be streeettcching my products to save money :o Specially the stuff I like and can't afford to replace :rotfl:

It's finally friday and I'm pleased about that. I hope you all are too and that everyone has a good weekend. Saying it now just incase ebay stresses me out that much I can't work my laptop :o I hate ebay!!!
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.

Exactly. She did leave follow up comments, but of course by that time the damage was done as her feedback rating now puts anyone off buying from her! She was quite new to eBay at the time so that one neg knocked her down to 75% or something silly like that.

I've been lucky so far too - got one item bought by someone fraudulently but eBay were actually very good about sorting that out and thankfully it sold first time on relisting.

Lin.c you have some nice products there. I got the same Ted Baker gift set for Christmas. I have got all of my body sprays stored in the bag at the moment. I have used the bath chrystals but nothing else from there. I'm not that sure, hope the shower gel and body spray smell better. If I don't like the smell, I can always take it in to work and leave in the loo. I'm sure there will be someone there who likes it!

ETA (oops, hit return and it posted!) I was very excited this afternoon to find that I am getting towards the end of the toothpaste. Probably finish it by next week? It always seems to go on for ages so I hope I'm overestimating. DH has been really good and hasn't gone out and bought more of his flouride free one. It's him that caused the issue with toothpaste as he suddenly decided to not use normal anymore and kept buying another without using anything up. When I did the stash I showed him how much toothpaste there was and asked him to not buy anymore until this was all used up. Then we would only need 1 tube at a time.
He's still on his nasty roll on!

If the phone's worth a lot of money I'd go with Special Delivery as it's insured for the value. Recorded's more for documents that you want to make sure have been received but don't have any value. Also you can insure parcels by standard parcel post but you don't have proof they've received the item.

If it's not worth much like the hooded top possibly is, I'd say send it by standard parcels and when you get to the PO, if it's cheaper to go first class (which it often is) send it first. I always weigh stuff on my kitchen scales, get an idea of the price off the RM website and then add a small amount for the packaging. I don't always get it right but mostly I'm not out of pocket.

For all the horror stories, I'm sure they're in the tiny minority. I'm still selling stuff. If you're worried, start with small/low value stuff until you have confidence in the system.:)

Always get proof of postage whatever method you use.
