There's a thread started by Lynzpower somewhere around here (try about last Friday evening) where she was using up the contents of her fridge, and was persuaded to make a mushroom, cheese and onion quiche with puff pastry.

The verdict was that it turned out lovely, so that's another suggestion if you have the necessary ingredients for a quiche.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • I saw the Barefoot Contessa making Palmier biscuits from some puff pastry. Looked yummy and easy to make.

    Palmiers

You can eat them as they are or you can sandwich them with cream and jam. Or you can replace the sugar with cheese to make savoury Palmiers.

This is another puff pastry thread which I added to

    - it has some v good ideas - tried the cinammon whirls from there last time I had some left over puff pastry and they worked out very well.
  • In a moment of bargain madness, I bought some Jus Rol Puff Pasty and put it in the freezer where its been sat for about 2 months.

I have no idea what to do with it, as I never bake and therefore have no scales, rolling pin, flour, pie dishes - well, anything really.

I hate wasting things so wondered whether you had any ideas on what I can do with it?

I've seen a couple of recipes in books that use it as a kind of pizza base. You could get away with not rolling it (as it is ready rolled), using it on a square baking tray and then adding passata (or tomato puree), onions and then pizza toppings? ;)

You could buy some sausage meat and make your own sausage rolls :)

edit: just thought, you need to roll it out, I used to use a glass milk bottle, not sure if you have one of those, maybe a plastic juice bottle with water in, it only needs to be round and heavy, next time you go shopping it may be worth just picking up a rolling pin, think they're only 50p in Asda for a wooden one, I rarely use mine but I do know it's there if I need it :)
  • Great ideas - thanks guys.

If anyone has anymore, I'd love to hear them.

An empty wine bottle makes an OK rolling pin. I am sure you can manage one of those!
  • Roll it out into a rectangle as suggested with a bottle -wine bottle is perfect.
Put it on a greased baking tray.
Score a line about an inch in from the edge all the way round. Don't cut right through.
Cover the area inside this line with yummy stuff like; fried onions and melty cheese, fired mushrooms and melty cheese, leeks, bacon and crumbled blue cheese, roast peppers, olives and anchovies, roast squash and feta cheese.

You can make a big pasty by rolling out 2 rectangles. Brush egg round the edge of one, fill with stuff and top with the other bit of pastry.

Bake tart or pasty at 200 degrees 20-25 mins.

Another good idea is to roll it out into a rectangle, spread with marmite/chutney and sprinkle with cheese.
Roll up like a swiss roll. Cut into slices about an inch thick. Lay them on a baking tray and bake as before. Brilliant lunchbox snack if you can stop yourself from eating them as soon as they come out of the oven.

You could of course do a sweet version with butter mashed up with sugar and cinnamon.

    How about steak pie?

Or apple turn overs? Roll pastry out, cut into large squares. Chop up some appels into small bits (2) mix with cinnamon, some sugar and add sultanas. Put a spoonful onto square of pastry, Fold into triangle, seal all edges. Brush with egg and sprinkle some sugar on top, Bake for about 15 -20min in oven (200 C)
