Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 31st January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning.
First to start? Goodness you lot must have better things to do. Like sleeping :rotfl:
Been awake since 4am so am shattered. Back is playing up so lying with DS on his bed is making lying VERY uncomfortable. Need to do some yoga but on a routine basis.....hmmm I can't see that happening unfortunately
Both me and H feel like we have colds coming oh joy. Better break out the eccinachea.
Got some breadsticks cooking at the mo made from left over pizza dough from last night. And am I taking OS too far in the fact that I washed a piece of greaseproof paper last night? It was only a bit greasy from the cheese on the pizza and I didn't want to chuck it away. I think the Tightwad Gazette has been having an effect on me :rotfl:
Mt ironing to tackle today. Not much else going on.
Hugs to those that need them, have a good Sunday OS or not.

Morning everyone - hope you've all had a better night's sleep than me and Bitsy? I've been awake since 2 am feeling queasy
Not come to anything, but the Winter vomiting bug is doing the rounds just now.
Got a chicken in to make a pie with later today and will boil the bones to make a chicken soup. Provided I feel better later on, otherwise DH will be doing it!
I'm going to try and go and get some sleep now. Fingers crossed that Andy Murray does well today, even if I don't see the match!
Have a good day everyone0 -
Morning.
Cold here today currently -3. The ground is white after what was quite an amazing snow shower yesterday. About lunch time it snowed an just covered everything in about an inch of snow. We were on the way to the city of Truro and really had to take it easy. Saw 2 cars crash and chaos. Within a few miles, no snow and sun. When we got back our house was covered. Such a huge difference in what was a few miles. They say their could be more today..
Church this morning and then the family up for a roast later. Got some of that pork on offer from Tesco before Christmas.
Well, have a good day.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning peeps
it looks as if it has snowed outside but it hasn`t, the frost is really thick - over an inch thick in fact. Out side is bitterly cold as you can imagine.
Well i`ve been awake most of the night, made the most of the cheap electricity though as i`ve done three loads of washing and had two of them in the dryer, the last load has just been hung on the airer. I`ve also had the old seldom used immersion heater on so i shall have plenty of hot water later to clean the floors later.
The breadmaker has just finished and the dishwasher has been emptied and i have the slowcooker soaking. I made dogfood in it last night so thats all portioned up and cooling atm, i shall pop it in the fridge once its cooled and then freeze some for later in the week, the doggies love their hm dog food.
We had hm pizza for tea last night which we really enjoyed, we`ve not had that for ages so i shall put it on the meal plan more often - costs pennies to make too so very MS.
DH is off fishing today, not sure where he thinks he will be going thats not frozen, i have visions of him sitting there like a little gnome all huddled up fishing through a circle cut in the ice :rotfl:he must be raving mad
Seraphina - Thanks for posting yesterday about your seeds which are already growing, its given me a bit more confidence.
N9eav - I sorted some seeds out yesterday and put some to one side, i shall start them in ajar on some kitchen paper in a warm dark place i think and then put them into pots of compost once they have sprouted. I shall pot the compost today and bring it inside to get it to a decent temperature, good luck with yours.
Pork and stuffing for todays dinner :j can`t wait as we`ve not had a proper Sunday meal for a while as i`ve been working or out so i`m looking forward to it. I shal put the pork in the sc when its been cleaned and then i shall find where the breadcrumbs are lurking in the freezer to make the stuffing.
Have a lovely day peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -

Very cold here too this morning, so hopefully I won't have to venture out until it defrost a little.
No real plans today, apart from doing the housework I didn't do yesterday & I must do my roots today, must try & kid people that I'm younger than I really am.
Spoke to a friend yesterday & her house sale has fallen through, for the 6th time!
Breakfast Porridge
Lunch/tea Roast beef, roast pots roast parsnips, yorkies, cauli cheese, spring greens, carrots & gravy.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good Morning All
Nessie hope you feel better soon.
No more snow here but is very very cold.
My to do list today is ginormous! :eek:but I did end up having a relaxing afternoon yesterday after running DD about.
Have a slow roasting pork joint from the M&S meat for a tenner offer which I am about to put in the slow cooker. A load of washing to go in the machine then I will jump in the bath. This morning need to head to Dartford to pick up a lorry and download the tacho. Need to then upload it to my laptop which is playing up yet again, have decided to cut my losses and get a new one which I need to do asap as don't want to risk losing anything on this one.
Ironing this afternoon in front of the telly, have ration book britain on sky+ so that wil make the job easier. Also must look into booking the War Museum exhibition soon.
Bread for packed lunches must be made, menu plan to be done and online shop. Will have to pick up a few bits for packed lunches from the local shops. Think will need lots of caffine today to keep me going :rotfl:will be treating myself to a nice Mocha on the way to dartford - will need it to keep me warm I think.
Phew, I am now tired just thinking about it. Best not loiter, have a good one.x

Hello from a rather frosty Bristol, but it doesn't sound like it's as cold here as it is with some of you.
Had a lovely day yesterday; took the kids (and dog!) to Westonbirt Arboretum and all had a good stretch of our legs. When we got back DH put on 'Thunderbirds' for him and DS; DD was happily playing on the computer so I just lay on the sofa, DS put a blanket on me (bless!) and I fell asleep!!!! Woke just past 6 and felt so much better though we had a late dinner of course. Then in the evening I finished the last sleeve on DS's jumper (just discovering the joys of knitting), and have started knitting on the collar; it's not perfect but he won't mind and I figure I'll get better the more I do won't I;).
I've just made some yogurt in the EasiYo and am about to make a cup of tea for me and DH. Not sure what we have planned for today, but I know food wise we're eating mushroom risotto and syrup sponge done on the microwave (both recipes from this wonderful site!)
Essex-girl, sounds like you do have a lot to do today but have a good day!
Hester, I'm with you on the roots and very much know where you're coming from! Your lunch sounds lovely, I adore roast beef.
Sunnyday, you've been busy already and put me to shame! Hope your DH wears lots of layers to go fishing as I'd think he'd freeze sat still by the lake .... makes me shiver thinking of it. I made pizza the other day; it was really tasty and, like you say, is very cheap so we'll have it more often.
N9eav, whereabouts in Cornwall are you? My Mum, Dad and 2 sisters live in Truro and my brother is Redruth. I'm originally Cornish; we moved for Dad's job to Bristol and then after 8 years he got head-hunted for a job in Cornwall so they all moved back again but I stayed here in Bristol. It's so lovely down there
Nessie, hope you don't get sick and feel better as the day goes on. There's definitely a bug doing the rounds up here too but you normally get something at this time of year don't you. Enjoy the tennis if you're able to watch it!
Bitsy, do you suffer a lot with your back? I dislocated my pelvis years ago but thankfully it's much improved now but I do have to be careful. Nothing worse than a bad back. Send me some ironing and I'll do it for you
Off to make this cup of tea (looks like it won't make itself!), unload DW and start breakfast - have a good day!!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Morning all! Am back after a few computer problems. Ground is white here too (Salisbury) but I'm determined to get out into the garden and finish what I started yesterday. Just tidying up, but so much easier when you haven't got half the garden stuck to your boots!
Haven't been able to do any weeding though as the weeds are frozen into the soil -. Instead I sorted out my wardrobe and got realistic about the clothes I'm never going to wear - watch out ebay!!!
Did a weeks shopping in 20 mins in ASD yesterday - OH had the children in tow behind me and we were on our way to the cinema to treat them. Really focuses the mind about what you think you need - will probably find out I've forgotten loads though!
Made 6 weeks of sandwiches for DS2 which I'll freeze, so that the ham and cheese I had in the fridge didn't get thrown away. Going to visit friends and rellies next weekend, so I'll make some cakes to take with me as they're always welcome.
Otherwise its the usual today - breadmaker, washing machine, hoover etc are all calling me - so I'd better get on with it. Hope you have a lovely bright sunrise despite the frost - the sun is just moving round into my eyes now! Have a great day!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Good morning all!
We've finally got the snow.... think it's getting on it's way to being about an inch thick. Just hope it's not too bad to drive in later as am taking DD and DS to my Mum's whilst we do some DIY. Shiny new chrome fixtures to fit in the bathroom :j:j
I'll be making a Stardrops debut later as well. Have high hopes after reading about it on here :cool2:

Hi am new (ish) here - hope you don't mind me adding to the post. It snowed here in S west wales Fri night now its frozen - bit dangerous! hope I can get the car out to go to work tomorrow.
Today I have a mountain of washing to do - clothes and dishes, will be cooking with the girls later - made the hob nobs recipe from here last week - then used leftovers to make a cheesecake - yum. I also made bread in my machine from a recipe here - whick worked amazing - have had my breadmaker for years and not used it as my bread was always rubbish.
Nice to "meet" you all

I hurt it bending over in the shower when I was around 25 years old (no H and I weren't "celebrating a la Hester style I was actually going to shave my legs :rotfl:). No idea what happened but spent 3 weeks in agony on the floor and another 3 struggling to get back on my feet. Since then my lumbar region has a weakness. I've seen Osteopaths who have made a huge difference but lugging DD around, being overweight and not doing enough exercise (low impact - can't cope with high) all contributes to my poor back health. Once I am up and moving around it tends to feel better - sleeping (or tossing and turning and bed hopping between my bed and DS's tends to make it uncomfy).
OUCH at dislocating your pelvis
Thanks for the offer of the ironing. You've very sweet
Edited to say:
