Guys your advise needed

Options
I bought a new external HDD now, Dont want to tell the supplier now, but i've done all my research before i buy this one as far as i can. They mentioned transfer rate is 480 Mbps

I'm not getting anywhere near that one. Less than half transfer rate from that they mentioned. Is that my fault.

Now do i need to keep this one or return that one back to strore.

Dont know about external HDDs but internal ones have a "jumper" that limits the speed as old pcs cant handle the speed (think thats the reason anyway). Have you had a look in the instruction manual for any clues?? Maybe asking on the techie board will give a better answer. If not then take it back

480 Mbps is the maximum speed the manufacturers have ever got from it. That doesn't mean everyone that buys it will get the same.

Which the OP would have found out if he had done 'all his research' (as he put it) more thoroughly. Hence post #2.

I don't think you should return it to the store, you'll probably find that it's actually functioning as it should.

Have a read of this "Signaling" section, from the Wikipedia entry on USB and that might make things a bit clearer.

(The last 2 paragraphs of the section are particularly relevant)

If you still think it could be a fault, try posting on the Techie forum for some advice.

Considering that the max data though put of a SATAii hardrive is 300mb and that best conditions the only time you ever get anywhere close to 480mbs is when data is loaded to the hardrive cache and doesnt take long to fill. They pretty much lie with there figures/bend the truth
