Also, the smaller files you transfer, the slow it goes - a 700MB film can be written in one long sweep, whereas to place 700,00 1KB files it has to make lots and lots of sweeps - one may transfer at 100 MB/s (direct HD -> HD transfer here) whereas with tiny files i've seen as low as >1MB/s.
